I think a lot of these protestors just can't wrap their minds around the fact that evil exists in the world. I work with a couple of peaceniks, and one of the women is one of the most thoughtful people I know. She does not believe in war under any circumstance, and is appalled that the UN is in Kosovo. She also doesn't believe the UN should send their peacekeepers in because "everyone should love each other and not fight." Just no reality in this woman's life, and no understanding of human nature.

Most of us here probably see human nature as sinful, or fallen. At any rate, we find human beings imperfect. I believe the protesters - spurning the notion of an infinite, personal, perfect God - see man as the measure of all things, the definer of all morality, the only arbiter of what is "good" (a term most could not define) or "evil." Not wanting to seem judgmental (apparently, not a "good" thing to be), they eschew making that uncomfortable good-evil evaluation, and are left with the notion that everyone's basically good. No one, however, is good enough to be justified in punishing those whose flaw - if any - is being slightly less good.
