Hence, I have ceased describing myself as a small "l" libertarian. I now call myself either a Jeffersonian, in tribute to the grandaddy of all friends of liberty, or in certain circles as a Rational Anarchist, in tribute to Professor de la Paz who taught me that laws and obedience or disobedience thereunto are always a matter of personal responsibility.

The LP has done what most ideologically driven political parties have done; allowed strict adherence to the underlying ideology to lead them into utterly irrational and impractical positions. Sure, in a perfect world you would never have preemptive war, but in a perfect world even the silliest ideas (like "From each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs.") might have a shot at working. Their positions fail to take into account the simple fact that human beings are ornery, cantankerous, irrational beasts that can be counted on to do things that are not in their own best interests for silly reasons that are nonetheless deeply heartfelt.

They also seem to be incapable of understanding the existence of evil and the obligation of good to oppose it.
