And the Old Boy Shuffle goes on. Seems most NFL GMs/owners have all the imagination of houseplants.

The Lions haven't been worth watching since Barry left. Maybe this is the shot in the arm they need to do something positive with this franchise. How many teams that have been around for so long have never even been to a Super Bowl?

Len Pasquerelli of ESPN is now saying that Mariucci has NOT been contacted.

Nonetheless, a 3:30pm news conference is scheduled to announce Marty's firing.

Any team that would cut Mike Morris is not going anywhere.

Pro sports (Football-Baseball) all have limisted vision...
Constant recycling...one team to another. I remember when
they went to college ranks....Don Coryell (coach of San
Diego State) and he had some great years in the NFL with
the Chargers-Air Coryell-Dan Fouts, etc. Sad part is the
defense gave up as many points as the O-scored..But the
point is there are probably some great coaches that never
get the chance??? Jake

49ers asking Bucs permission to speak with Kiffin

ESPN.com news services

The 49ers are in the process of asking permission to interview Bucs defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin for their vacant head coaching position, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports.

Kiffin's Tampa defense was No. 1 in the NFL this season. Under his guidance, the Bucs shut down the Raiders' high-powered offense in Sunday's 48-21 Super Bowl XXXVII rout. Members of Tampa's defensive unit gave Kiffin lots of credit for coming up with the battleplan to stop the Raiders.

"You've got to love playing for the guy," defensive end Simeon Rice of Kiffin. "He takes every player, figures out what his strengths are, and designs something to (accentuate) them. The guy is flat-out brilliant."

The 49ers interviewed Patriots defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel this weekend, and will next talk to Ted Cottrell, defensive coordinator of the Jets. The 49ers have also interviewed 49ers defensive coordinator Jim Mora Jr. and Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
