Princeton Scholar Dr. Cornell West has a role in both films [The 'Maxtrix Reloaded' and 'Revolutions'] as a Zion elder.
Like the first movie the sequels continue to draw on a variety of sources from Japanese Anime to Eastern Philosophy as well as kung-fu films and the Holy Bible, the kinds of concepts that 'Matrix' fans have relished discussing.
'All the ideas and concepts are there,' Producer Joel Silver promised, 'Only better.'
The same goes for the computer generated images and special effects in Reloaded and Revolutions, said John Gaeta, special effetcs supervisor.

Considering the Matrix is about crazy perceptions of reality and a completely whacked out conspiracy theory, Cornell West should fit right in.

The Matrix sequels are close to holy to me, and the university liberal crowd, especially the reparations crowd, are...not.
But this honestly doesn't bother me at all. I think it's good that the messages of the this trilogy are overpowering enough to bridge our ideological caps. That West is not revulsed by the movie series, and in fact wants to play a part in it, tells me (as I believe with nearly all people), that there is a way to get the right ideas through, if only we can find them.

I have lost a ton of interest to see it in the theaters. I'll probably have a sweet surround sound thetre set up by the time it hits video so I'll just wait till then.

I think I'll throw up. Cornell buddy was a guy who had smarts, but found that race-baiting was more profitable. He gave the commencement address at my daughter's college, where the great majority of the student body was white (most of them working class, first-generation college graduates), but his speech was addressed solely to the black students and essentially said that any whites graduating were just garbage and had been given everything they got. My daughter and a couple of her friends were almost in tears.
Well, I guess it's worked for him. He's made a fortune on this, thanks to well-off white liberals, and has been able to devote himself to scholarly pursuits such as his own middle-aged rap album, etc.

Hopefully most of Dr. Wests 'work' will be on the cutting room floor.

I've heard that the chief agent on Matrix I is the same guy who was Elrond, the head of the elves in the Ring trilogy. Any truth to that?
To: ewing
West is a phony and a blowhard. Good for entertainment only. I believe it was the Village Voice, that vicious organ of right-wing extremism, which described his books as 'almost entirely worthless'. Tavis Smiley may be the only guy on radio who does not/cannot see through the guy's BS.

How can anyone take a so-called PhD with teeth that bad and a Spike Lee throw back afro seriously?

I have no idea. I am not particularly a Rings fan. The Matrix plot was far more complex and stimulating.
