CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A computer specialist has lost his job at the state Department of Corrections because he portrayed a customer at a Nevada brothel for a television show.

James Wood and his wife, Amy, were actors in an HBO program about the Moonlite Bunny Ranch east of Carson City. Wood said he was within six days of completing his one-year probation period at the department when he received notice he wouldn't be retained "for moral reasons."

Glen Whorton, assistant director of the state Department of Corrections, said in an e-mail to Keith Munro, legal counsel to Gov. Kenny Guinn, that Wood terminated for "inappropriate activity."

"I indicated that his involvement was inappropriate because it exploited women, and we incarcerated many women with similar backgrounds," Wharton said in his e-mail.

Wood worked in the central office at the Department of Corrections that oversees the prison system and said he never had any contact with inmates or family.

By failing to complete his probation, Wood returns to his former job at the state Department of Information Technology and sees a salary cut of about 15 percent.

Wood and his wife perform in local theater productions. He and his wife were paid $1,000 from HBO and $500 from the brothel to act as a couple that went to the bordello to negotiate a price for the services of two women.

"he portrayed a customer at a Nevada brothel for a television show. James Wood..."

With the name of "Wood" he was a natural for this hard role.

Lawsuit material, if this is indeed the stated reason. The "ranch" is legal in Nevada, of course; women are not "exploited" there any more than any woman who takes any job because she needs the money, and no woman who works/worked at a "ranch" is incarcerated solely for that fact. He's mixing up legal, state-sanctioned prostitution with illegal "call girl" operations.

Let's cut right to the heart of the matter... he's mistaking television for reality. Can't he tell the difference between a dramatic portrayal and the real thing? I hope none of his other employees ever played MacBeth in high school... they'll be up on murder charges.

Many highly intelligent people have little common sense.
I discovered that shortly after reaching adulthood.

And since then I have yet to decide which is the more important...

You should never confuse movies:

with reality:

You might get confused about Senator Byrd's true position.

The fellow called in to a talk radio program (Rusty Humphries) yesterday, and explained that he discussed the matter with his boss BEFORE the event, and received no disapproval from the boss, who joked about maybe doing it himself.

Also, he explained how the establishement offered to "comp" him in lieu of pay for the acting role.

Let's see - you can get a BJ from a nearly underage intern while discussing troop movements to Bosnia, lie about it, and then it is just your personal business. Acting in a TV role is immoral. Unbelievable.

They are very cultured brothels. But you don't want to see the cultures turn up on your microscope slide.
