SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey threw a cup of ice water over his head and splashed a child in the first quarter of the NFC playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. The emotional Shockey, who often alienates opposing fans and players by his demonstrative nature, was being heckled by fans at the time. Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said no one was hurt, and the rookie tight end was not restrained by security.
It happened shortly after Shockey thought linebacker Julian Peterson had held him on an incomplete third-down pass.
"I think it was an act of frustration," Hanlon said.
The boy was given a football by the Giants.

"I like him as a player but if he keeps acting like he cured cancer every time he catches a four yard pass someone is eventually going to take a cheap shot at him and cause him to miss some time."

I would say that Julian Peterson got a few shots in on him yesterday. Go Niners!

Yesterday's event illustrated two points.

The first is that big-ego immature players from both teams need to be cut from their teams regardless of their athletic ability. Terrel Owens forearm to the back of that Giants receiver was inexcusable. The Giants inability to have any self control whatsoever is what lost the game for them.

The second second issue is the fact that these people hold no respect for anything, including football. Professional football has become a joke. Running more Charity spot commercials profiling NFL players aint gonna help either. Much like the few hundred commercials yesterday for stock brokers who made me feel better about the few billions they stole from you and me. Pathetic..............

Yeah, all the Hot Dogs in the NFL are U of Miami players... Moron.

Sound like fans of Univ of Miami are in the same league.

He "splashed a child". So what? I mean seriously, what the heck are we coming to when a little water comes in contact with a child, and it becomes a reportable story. This is shere lunacy, and anyone that would jump to conclusions to damn this player is on very shakey ground.

I agree. Shockey's a ass, but this is a complete non-story.

I wonder how many kids had beer dumped on them during the game, intentionally or unintentionally, yesterday?

Not to mention the fact that they play football when it is raining and any child in the stands watching football when it is raining is going to get wet. Sheeesh.

If this is a "non-story" why did you bother reading it and then responding to it. You're here for the same reason the rest of are...we think sports stories are interesting news...even if it's a moronic story like this one.

And just what the hell was Parcells thinking when he decided to coach for Jerry Jones and his band of thieves, rapists, drug dealers, daddy in every town, gun through airport, gang bangers anyhoooo?

Waaahhhhh. The thieves, rapists, drug dealers, etc. that frequented Valley Ranch have pretty much all been driven out of town at this point. Parcells will turn this team around and then the anti-cowboy folks will be blaming the refs when Parcells coaches the Cowboys back into the Super Bowl.

For 5 years I've heard, "Jeremy this and Jeremy that."

Shockey is the nephew of a friend of mine. According to her he is one of those who does all his "trash talking" on the field.

Four years ago this kid (and he is still a kid) was playing wide-receiver for Ada, OK, high school where he held the all time Oklahoma H.S. record for catches. He couldn't get a scholarship out of high school and went to a jr. college in OK where after one year everybody was offering him a scholarship.

He went to Miami because they hadn't turned him down before. OU and Texas A&M are two I remember who turned him down. He was All-American on two National Champions and went pro a year early.

He might be "Cocky Shockey" on the field but just remember he's going to "catch it" from Momma and the aunt when he gets off. His antics are to fire himself up and he thinks he should catch everything thrown his way. He's his own worst critic.

His first day in training camp he got into a fight with Tiki Barber in the dining hall and the mother and aunt discussed "going up there to straighten him out." It's funny to watch because they are so proud of him they could pop on the one hand and get so mad at him they could kill him on the other.

I can't wait to get the latest up-close and personnal report on Jeremy Shockey.

I think professional football players are tested for steroids. Steroids are a baseball thing.

"Jeremy Shockey threw a cup of ice water over his head and splashed a child"

When my 10 year old asks me why is it cool to drink beer after watching all the beer commercials, Child abuse by a cup of water OVER THE HEAD that "struck a child" is not even close.

Your kids watch Hockey?

I hope the kid has dried off.

I hope and pray that Terrel Owens has an extremely debilitating injury. A badly broken jaw would be very appropriate for him. He is the biggest a$$hole I have ever seen in a NFL uniform. What a pr***k.
Some players smash mouth, some players play dirty, but he has both characteristics in spades.

If that had happened in North Carolina, the kid's parents could have gone to a magistrate and sworn out an arrest for "assault" against Shockey. Then they could have filed a civil lawsuit against him, and probably received a settlement from the Giants' insurance company. How do you think John Edwards made his money?

Maybe they can trade Shockey and S. Williams for the 9ers Tirading Owens.. These kind of players do nothing to make the NFL suitable for kids of all ages. IMO.

His first day in training camp he got into a fight with Tiki Barber in the dining hall

Actually, the fight was with Giant Linebacker Brandon Short. The Giants have a tradition of rookies singing there school songs for the whole team and Short was harassing Shockey, telling him to had do it. When Shockey finally rose to sing, he said introduced himself, stated his signing bonus and said this song is for B. Short. Then they had a rumble in the dining hall. He's very cocky, but he backs up his big talk. He was the only rookie to make the Pro Bowl this year.

Lennox Lewis splashed me with Mike Tyson's blood as I sat ringside, which was quite unnerving. Being splashed with water is not a story. Next...
