White House Wannabe Edwards Has Ex-Klansman for Mentor
If the rest of the media do their job, White House wannabe Sen. John Edwards will find, like Sen. Trent Lott, that words can come back to haunt you.
At Bill Clinton's impeachment trial, here's what Edwards had to say in the Congressional Record on Feb. 12, 1999, according to CNN:
"... [H]owever reprehensible the president's conduct is, I have to vote to acquit on both articles of impeachment."
'Please Listen'
"I have one last thing I want to say to you all, and it is actually most important. If you don't remember anything else I said, and you weren't listening to anything else I have said, please listen to what I am about to say because it is so important to me.
"I have learned so much during the 30 days that I have been here. I have had a mentor in Senator Byrd, who has probably been a mentor to many others before me."
Byrd, of course, is America's most famous former Ku Klux Klansman.
Edwards, a multimillionaire Democrat trial lawyer, is from North Carolina - a white Southerner. Sen. Hillary Clinton and other party leaders have recently tried to exploit the Lott mess by implying that white Southerners are all racist right-wingers, as opposed to the racist left-wingers they court.
Thanks to the reader who sent us this tip. He wrote: "Wow, how many 'regular people' have a former KKK member as a mentor? Makes Trent look look a civil right leader."
In his testimony, Edwards urged us to listen to his statement. He might regret those words.

So? That alone should not disqualify him. However, it is a good thing to point out, and then say that it is no big deal.

My wife and I saw him for the first time on a little news snippet (we obviously avoid network news) and the man came across as very smooth.
Somebody to watch out for, for sure. The camera is very kind to him.

If Edward's were a Republican, he would at the very least have to explain 'those words'; but he is not. . .
. . . and in Byrd's case, 'former' Klansman will mean 'former' . . .and that we should 'forget about it'.

That was just pretty wily of the neophyte Senator John Edwards, to accept the tutelage of an astute old politician like Robert Byrd, and glean so many good lessons, all the while being uncontaminated by the very dark side that had run through the Southern Democrats for well over a century, and has not even yet been excised.
One wonders if the Senator from South Carolina may have a history of being a closet racist and bigot. But of course any person's motives and thoughts cannot, by definition, be known very well by others.

Just makes me wonder if the young senator has some hidden racist leanings, since Senator KKK was his mentor, I think that we have a right to know. Think that anyone will question him about It. Guess not he's a demoncrat.

You are so dense. You obviously don't realize yet that there is an entirely different set of standards (or lack of them) for Democrats. ;-)

A 'Clinton two'? Really do not know that much about him; but with his being a Democrat, I
know I do not like him. . .
. . .acutally, am thinking that this is really a setup for '08' and Edwards as a VP running mate with Hillary. . .

"I have learned so much during the 30 days that I have been here."I believe the impeachment vote was Edwards' first vote as Senator.
He guessed wrong. Darn the luck - eh?
