Technically, no. He is only establishing an exploratory committee, while hoping (along with Harry Browne) that the economy tanks and al Qaeda wins.Well, yeah, technically. But very few establish an exploratory committee and then decide "Nahhh." Once you have a bunch of big-name yes-men sitting around the conference table telling you you can become leader of the world, your ego tends to kick in.

Perhaps a tad simplistic. We have two years to make our way thru this thing. Lot of things can happen. To me she wants no part of being in the bog with the other also rans. Gore was pushed out of the way so if Bush falters Hillary can go for the gold ring.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think The Queen's not going to try. I just don't think it's going to be in 2004, and she's going to finally have her decades-overdue comeuppance when she does.

I stand to be corrected, but I believe our twentieth President, James Garfield, was an Ohio representative directly elected to the White House. (1880 election) I consulted Garfield's biography and you are indeed correct. Garfield was elected president out of the House of Representatives. But it should be noted that Garfield distinguished himself outside the Congress as a general for the Union in the Civil War. In 1862, Lincoln persuaded Garfield to resign his commission and run for congress because in Lincoln's words, "I can find generals easier than I can find effective Republicans in Congress."
It should also be noted that in the 1880 election, Garfield was a "dark horse" candidate. The Republicans were essentially deadlocked at the convention that year and still could not nominate anybody after 36 ballots. When Garfield was considered on the 37th ballot, he was nominated (he was at the convention to support John Sherman). The election that year was also very close. Garfield just barely beat Democrat Gen. Winfred Scott Hancock.
Tragically, Garfield was shot just months after taking office. He spent over two months on his deathbed before he finally succumbed.
Which reminds me of something that always has bothered me. Lincoln and Kennedy get all the attention so far as assassinations go. But we had two other presidents who were killed in the line of duty as well. Garfield and William McKinley. Those two were also honorable men who deserve more recognition than they have gotten. BTW, the only president to ever survive an assassins bullet...Ronald W. Reagan!

I've said it before; this is all posturing, and Hillary will step forth with the supposed polls showing she is still the front runner, and declare "Americans are demanding that I run for President, and although I had said I would serve my full Senate term, I am answering the call of the people...."
Worst part about it will be that as long as she avoids speaking, she could win as so many people will vote for her for two simple reasons:
1. Women will vote for ANY woman running.
2. Like it or not, "celebrity" gets the votes for liberals.
To: Senator Pardek
And you know, that might just be enough to make him a front-runner. He's been a little more hungry than the rest, and it takes a fire in the belly to drive a man to give up a year or more of his life, in quest of the Presidency. Besides, as he is no longer House Minority Leader, he has a lot more time on his hands....

After they get finished making fools out of themselves and have every Dem disgusted...Hillary will ride in on her water buffalo and then SAVE the Day as the Dem's candidate.
To: Dog Gone
Everyone can relax now, and watch USC pummel Iowa on ABC. They're not getting pummeled yet, hopefully the rubber's will get their asses handed to them.

I truly hope to still be alive, to witness that wonderful day, whenever it comes.

....and I have the perfect campaign slogan for him:
"We need another Dick in the White House"

Gephardt, Edwards, Kerry, Daschle, Lieberman. This is going to be a fun election. Put all of them together and you might get half a brain.

Hilllllary seems to have turned the money tap off for Gore. At least one of the candidates, howver, can get seed money from his wife.

IIRC, there's an obscure Constitutional amendment that says, in addition to the other requirements such as being a native-born American, you also must have eyebrows to be President.
Trouble for Geppie.
"Dick Gephardt.
Before he dicks you."
Thank you, God.
To: Timesink
This is pretty funny. He was sitting on the starting line just waiting for Edwards to announce. Then before a complete news cycle is done he leaps and cuts off Edward's media buzz. One point for Gephardt, Zero for the vacant Senator from North Carolina. What will Bubba Junior do to regain the glory? Stay tuned for more Democratic follies.

He reminds me of those characters from Lil Abner. Don't remember their names.
