The whole "Midge" thing is sad. A conservative patrolman on our local talk radio station put forward a pretty good argument for the whole Happy Family line as a pro-family product. "Little girls get Barbies and baby dolls and play house. What's so wrong with putting all that together? Midge is married, so it's not like some Murphy Brown situation." Well, his argument was more resonant and logical than that, but you get the idea.
