Green Wealth, Animal Rights Riches

Green and animal rights organizations do not subsist on the sale of calendars, books, and stuffed animals. They are wealthy beyond the comprehension of millions of Americans and others who support them in the belief they are "protecting the environment" and saving animals from "cruelty" and "extinction."

You will be astonished to learn that there are more than 4,000 environmental groups in America today. "And the number is growing," warns Ron Arnold of the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise, "and they are really out to get you. Worse, they have the clout and the money to do it." They use it to lobby and support members of Congress to initiate legislation harmful to the interests of all Americans.

Hugo Gurdon of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, in a recent National Post article, noted that "The 12 biggest environmental pressure groups in the United States enjoy combined annual revenues of $1.95 billion, according to the latest Internal Revenue Service figures. Only 725 of the United States' 20 million companies can boast such magnificent cash flow."

"Among the green dozen are some-Nature Conservancy ($731 million) and the Wildlife Conservation Council ($311 million)-that are merely left-of-center. But there are genuinely extreme organizations-the World Wildlife fund ($118 million) and the Sierra Club ($73 million)-that militate aggressively against the free market and attack property rights to the detriment of the economy and the majority of ordinary people," said Gurdon.

Arnold has written several excellent books on this topic that demonstrate how the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Working Group, and the Rainforest Action Network, have a long record of activities that undermine entire industries and the welfare of the nation's mining, ranching and farming enterprises.

In the case of the animal rights groups, Arnold has documented how People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is a case history of IRS tax law violations, stolen trade secrets, advocated arson, and assaulted business executives.

The Greens and the Animal Rights groups use every protection afforded by the Constitution and every loophole in our legal and IRS codes to pursue their war on capitalism, property rights, and the welfare of this nation. They are a Socialist Taliban.

Americans for Medical Progress, a group that monitors the Animal Rights movement that opposes the use of animals for medical research, recently released information concerning the wealth of some of the leading groups. PETA's annual budget is $13,499,614. It has net assets worth $4,480,988. It heavily underwrites the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, whose budget runs $2,915,847.

The American Anti-Vivisection Society has assets in excess of $11,561,737 and an annual budget of $1.2 million. The Fund for Animals has net assets in excess of $189,438,862 and runs an annual budget of more than $5.6 million. Defense of Animals is worth $1,483,334. There are others, that include the Animal Welfare Institute, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the Doris Day Animal League, and the Humane Society of the United States.

The Greens are leading the battle against genetically modified foods, a scientific breakthrough that promises to end famine. They are behind the U.S. government's former forest management policies that have led to years of catastrophic fires. Within the past few weeks, the Bush administration has announced the revisions necessary to thwart this menace. Greens fund the attack on property rights, the keystone of the American economy.

While our attention is focused on the threat of the global Islamic Jihad, we also have to keep an eye on these groups. The threat of the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberal Front is international in scope, and increasing daily here on the home front. They have begun to use violence against individuals to achieve their goals. In the past, they have specialized in arson and vandalism, some of which has destroyed years of scientific research for the benefit of humans, animals and protection of natural resources such as our forests.

You can learn the facts by visiting sites such as www.undueinfluence.com, and www.ranamuck.org, all provided by the Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise.

The next time you buy a Sierra Club calendar or get a slick brochure asking you to give money to these causes, keep in mind, your donation will fund the enemies of America.

Good article. I read Undue Influence awhile back - it really broadened my perception of what's going on with all these leftist/environmentalist groups!

I wonder why he left out "Earth Justice," formerly known as the "Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund?"

There is a whole industry, paid for by taxpayers, of simply filing suits to prey upon and intimidate, then settle with intimidated citizens and business owners. It is more coercive and corrosive than THE MOB!!!

Did ya see the article awhile back about the Nature Conservancy Pumping gas out of the "wildlife" refuge? Hey! What about the critters they disturbed! Think we should sue on thier behalf? I mean after all, isn't that what they would do to us if it were You or me?

I've been wondering about some of these environmental groups. Seems like every election in California has some environmenal measure on the ballot, and they always pass. People are conditioned to vote "yes" on anything that has anything to do with the environment. No one stands up and says, "Hey, we've been dumping billions of dollars into the environment, and what do we have to show for it?" After the last election last month, I came up with a theory that a good portion of that money our tax payers are putting into the environment every year is being indirectly funneled into supporting the Green Party. I know I'm sounding like a conspiracy theorist. But really, where is the Green Party getting their funds? There can't be many big companies -except for the Body Shop-- who would be willing to give big money to the Greens.

The answer to this is also the answer for so many of our problems---TORT REFORM, LOSER PAYS

Ought to be a law that inorder to file a lawsuit, you have to present the court with the fresh carcass of a trial lawyer. ,p. How much does a really good lawyer weigh? About five lbs., if you include the urn.

What is even worse is that the money they get is all PRETAX dollars, which effectively multiplies its purchasing power by 1.3 to 2.0 times.

The real problem is that people actually donate to these frauds. And until the practice is stopped (or at least severely curtailed) these organisations will continue to flourish.

And the people that are donating...are all mis-informed, usefull idiots??? No, a great many of them are believers in the ends and means, that's the real problem.

Where's the "greedy" trial lawyer when ya need one?

They are easy to come by, but at a high price.

I belong to a charter fisherman's group that is engaged in a two front battle. One with the Govt. regulators, and another battle behind the scenes with the preservationists who want to stop all fishing.

These "preservationists" have so much money, they want you to go to battle so they can economically break you. Just a mild skirmish will cost you 50 - 60 thousand dollars. There is no end of money and lawyers on their side,so they drag it out until you go broke.

Also an ace in the hole for them is to send "young female cause chasers" to the meeting to make emotional appeals instead of dealing with the facts. They can make opening a can of tuna fish sound like an atrocity.

Another thing that helps these environazis is the unawareness of the public even when their livelyhood is affected. Only a small percentage of any group see the threat immediately and react. By the time the rest get interested it is to late and the horse is out of the barn.

The enviros have an agenda and the public is unaware. - Tom

Also, TAX REFORM. If people couldn't write off these donations, but instead had to pay for them out of their own pocket, we would see how many true believers there really were. Bye bye Megacorp Foundation money.
