[history]
The mood inside Sen. Mary Landrieu's re-election campaign headquarters was glum by midafternoon Saturday. Checks of key precincts showed turnout among African-American voters wasn't nearly what the Democratic incumbent needed.
The monthlong national Republican blitz for challenger Suzanne Haik Terrell appeared to be working.

AR Bill twice carried LA. Now he can claim a third victory with Landrieu's reelection.

THe Rats ae considered as having a big win when all they did was maintain a seat held by an incumbent.
The rats are still on defense and the fact that the GOP couldn't score the ball is still deep in the rats end zone.

Clinton told Fields, a onetime Landrieu nemesis, to step up his get-out-the-vote machinery in African-American neighborhoods and to do it fast. Ah yes, "Black churches are burning." How well I remember it.
Calling The Rapist scum is an insult to scum.

This is BS. Louisiana politics has a life of it's own. If you are not from Louisiana, you will probably find it hard to understand, but the majority of voters in Louisiana like their candidates dirty and sleazy and find it a virtue.
BJ Klinton made no difference, in the end, the Dim-0-RAT will always win in Lousyana. I know, I used to be a Dim-0-RAT from Lousyana.

It must have been Clinton who made the difference, just like he did in every other race where he actively campaigned (where all the candidates lost...)
I attribute the victory to well organized fraud, as per normal DNC practices.

Terrell lost because :
1) She didn't get 64% or better of the white vote.
2) Sugar Thing
3) Mary Out Campaigned her
4) Terrell was all over the map on abortion..
5) O'Neill resignation on Friday.....It should have been on after the election. + Unemployment went up o.3% .....
In NoV Unemployment had gone down o.1%
6) Terrell was not polished..........Her debate performances were so-so..
Oh yea...In LA blacks make 1/3 of the population and close to 27-29% of the total votes...hence Terrell had to win the white vote by 64% or better.......
W got 72% of the white vote

Do people from LA, you think, have such a low view of themselves as you, a former Louisianian, seem to have of them? Many in LA really believe in liberalism, or as they call it, "democracy." In LA do the lower classes outnumber the middle and upper class? I would think the state is well over 35 percent lower(economic) class. I can see a parallell between LA and WV in that the poverty rate works to the advantage of the Democrats.

Add to yoour list that the largest motivating factor that Bush used to win elections was both the Homeland defense bill and the block on judges. Both of these were "cured" and the excitement on this election wasn't the same.
THe fact is the GOP should not have had a chance in hell anyways. The fact that we did is the big news. This was an interim election and she was an incumbent.

To: Quicksilver
This is a good report. Would these same kinds of figures also apply to PA with its Democrat Philadelphia? How about MI and its liberal Detroit? This makes me amazed that Jim Talent could overcome this kind of Democrat machinery in St. Louis and Kansas City.

Yes. Pure, unmitigated ignorance.

I haven't lookeed oyher states, but I think Louisiana has the highest black poopulation, around 33%. So, I'd say that it's not as dramatic in other states.

No, I am fairly sure that the MS black population is higher than in LA. At one time it was 38 percent, but I don't know the current population figure for MS. I think MS whites are less divided among themselves than are the more ethnically- and religiously-divided LA whites.

I attribute the victory to well organized fraud, as per normal DNC practices. This election will be scrutinized closely by the DNC and used as a template for 2004.
