Die Hausratte(Rattus rattus)
Gattung: Rattus
Die Haus- oder Dachratte lebt vielleicht schon mit dem Menschen, seit es ein Menschengeschlecht gibt. Körperlänge 16 bis 22 cm, Schwanzlänge 17 - 24 cm, Gewicht 70 - 300g. Schwanz meistens länger als Körper. Ohren groß, Körper schlanker als bei der Wanderratte. Besonders bei der Unterart Rattus rattus rattus sind schwarze Tiere sowie weiße Brustzeichnungen häufig. Verbreitungsschwerpunkt Südostasien. Viele Unterarten, einige weltweit verbreitet, darunter: Hausratte im engsten Sinn (Rattus rattus rattus), in Europa am stärksten an Häuser gebunden, Alexandriner Hausratte (Rattus rattus alexandrinus) und Fruchtratte(Rattus rattus frugivorus, Unterseite weiß), die beiden letzteren besonders wärmeliebenden, leben bevorzugt in Tropen und Subtropen, sowohl im Freiland als auch in Gebäuden. Alle drei Formen können miteinander gekreuzt werden, vermischen sich im Freileben jedoch nur gelegentlich.
Schon aus dem Eiszeitalter sind Hausratten in Westeuropa nachgewiesen. Vermutlich waren sie bereits damals Nutznießer des Menschen. Aus dem Mittelmeerraum ist das Vorkommen von Hausratten seit Jahrtausenden geschichtlich belegt. Als baumliebende Kletterer sind diese Ratten für Holzwände, Balken und für die oberen trockeneren Gebäudeteile geradezu wie geschaffen, ebenso wie für den Aufenthalt auf Schiffen, besonders auf den Holzschiffen früherer Zeiten. Mehr als 90% der auf Schiffen festgestellten Ratten sind Hausratten. Einige leben dauernd an Bord, andere verlassen die Schiffe in den Häfen und siedeln sich dann in Häusern an. Schon die ersten Seefahrer der Entdeckungszeit müssen Hausratten nach Südamerika gebracht haben, denn die Tiere wurden dort bereits um 1540 nachgewiesen.
In Mitteleuropa trat die Hausratte lange vor der Wanderratte auf, kommt aber in Nordeuropa aus klimatischen Gründen nur stellenweise vor. Ihre Anzahl ist heute in Mitteleuropa beträchtlich geringer als die der Wanderratte, wahrscheinlich aus dem Grunde, weil bei uns die bevorzugten Holzhäuser und Dielenboden rarer werden. Nur in wenigen Fällen weicht die Hausratte dem Wettbewerb ihrer größeren Verwandten, der Wanderratte, denn die beiden Arten begegnen sich ja nur in menschlichen Behausungen, wo die Wanderratte die unteren und unterirdischen Räume bewohnt, während die Hausratte in den oberen, trockenen Gebäudeteilen lebt, die ihr die nötigen Klettermöglichkeiten bieten.
Hausratten zeigen meist ein glatteres und glänzenderes, vor allem sauberes Fell. Das rührt daher, daß Rattus rattus nicht im gleichen Maße Unratbesucher und Kanalbewohner wie Rattus norvegicus ist. Die Hausratte klettert vorzüglich und lebt vorwiegend von pflanzlicher Nahrung. Ihre Vorfahren und Angenossen in den tropischen Gebieten Asiens und Afrikas lebten und leben noch auf Bäumen. Bei uns ist diese Vorliebe für höhere Regionen geblieben. Die Hausratte haust nämlich in untereinander ziemlich verträglichen Rudeln vorwiegend unter Dächem auf trockenen und warmen Haus-, Stall- und Getreideschüttböden. Sie nimmt nur selten Wasser auf, so nach Regen aus der Dachrinne. Sie macht besonders großen Schaden in den auf Böden aufbewahrten Obstvorräten, aber auch in Kornkammern.
Früher hielt man die zwei in Mitteleuropa auftretenden Färbungstypen für eigene Arten, da man annahm, die seit Jahrhunderten bekannte schwarze Hausratte sei etwas ganz anderes als die oberseits graubraune unten weiße "Dachratte" oder gar "ägyptische Dachratte". Das ist aber nicht der Fall, denn beide Farbtypen pflanzen sich unbegrenzt fruchtbar miteinander fort.
Haltung im Terrarium
Die Hausratte braucht, genau wie die Wanderratte, einen großen Hamster-, Vogel- oder Hasenkäfig, ca. 60x30x40 cm, mit nicht allzu großen Abständen zwischen den einzelnen Gitterstäben oder aber ein Terrarium von etwa der gleichen Größe. In den Käfig sollten ungefähr 2 cm Kleintierstreu gegeben werden.
Eine Ratte kann alle 4 Wochen 4-12 Junge bekommen. Man sollte der Mutter, nachdem sie die Babys zur Welt gebracht hat besser nicht zunahe kommen, denn sie beißt sehr kräftig zu. Nach ca. 1 Woche wächst den Jungratten ein Fell und man kann die Färbung erkennen. Mit 3 Wochen öffnen sie ihre winzigen äuglein und kriechen neugierig herum. Von jetzt an dauert es etwa 4 Monate, bis sie ausgewachsen sind.
Futter: Ratten sind Allesfresser. Man sollte ihnen am besten viel Obst und Gemüse, aber auf gar keinen Fall rohes Fleisch geben, da sie ansonsten anfangen zu beissen. Nüsse und anderes Trockenfutter, wie Getreide und Brot werden auch gerne gefressen.
