Enemies of the State

With the recent news that the FBI is now on the lookout for special-interest terrorists committing crimes in the United States, it has been reported that those terrorists are not by any means limited to the likes of al-Qaeda and the lunatic fringes associated with them.

The terms "special-interest extremism" or rather "eco-terrorism" are often used to better describe what are often called "tree huggers" - the Al Gore society, if you will. These people, who use Gore's book Earth in the Balance as a Bible of sorts to rationalize and justify their extremism in their fundamentalist attitude that somehow inanimate objects in the earth take greater priority and have far greater value than human beings. Yet in their enthusiasm, they have forgotten that fundamentalism is in actuality nothing more than facing the future by looking backwards.

In their zealousness to preach peace and love on the part of environmental and animal-rights activists they have gone overboard - so much so that the FBI classifies the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) for example, as a terrorist group, and describes it as "one of the most active extremist elements in the United States."

In addition to the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), we also have the Earth Liberation (ELF), an offshoot of the ALF. Though not directly related to each other, it is patterned after ALF and often uses the same tactics ALF does. Like any other terror cell, they operate anonymously and unknown to each other. This is so in order that in the event of arrest, the other cells are insulated and thus protected. It is precisely this formula that makes these organizations so inherently dangerous for all of us who seek to honor, obey and sustain the law.

There are those who have been convicted of crimes related to animal activism or rather, extremism - such as Fran Trutt, who was convicted of attempted murder after he planted a radio-controlled nail bomb to kill the president of a U.S. medical company that used animals to research the use of staples in human operations. Although nobody was hurt, the fact is that this nut was financed by PETA in this op to the tune of $7,500.

In other cases, PETA bankrolled $20,000 to Rodney Coronado, convicted of burning a research lab at Michigan State University, and $5,000 to Josh Harper, who was convicted of assaulting police. PETA has also donated money to ELF-sponsored acts. PETA funding of such violent acts has even caused critics of the group to push for an end to its tax-exempt, non-profit status. Clearly, with criminal behavior or sponsorship of such, they should not be rewarded for it with 501-(c)-3 tax-exempt status - in fact, quite the opposite, to include retroactive revocation to the date of the first illegal act in which it can be conclusively linked to PETA's direct or indirect involvement.

In a previous article titled "Terrorists, Home Grown", the actions of PETA in deploring the consumption of milk had only shown just how far out of touch they had become with reality on the day-to-day issues of our contemporary society. By continuing with these extremist stands and inflexible positions, they will only further alienate and inflame the population at large to such an extent that the people will demand their heads and justifiably get it.

Consequently, the FBI has had no choice but to declare these outfits - and no doubt PETA as well sooner or later (preferably sooner) - as enemies of the state and in the process set in place the mechanics by which they can be destroyed as quickly as possible.

In an interview with Fox News last year, a member of ELF spoke about his group's ends and means, and why their members perpetrate such crimes.

"It sends out a threat to those who assault environment that we will escalate tactics," ELF spokesman Leslie James told Fox in May 2001. "Because we only have one Earth, we need to protect it with everything we have."

Clearly, such extremism only sets in place the stage for more violence that can only lead to the loss of more innocent life - life that is far more precious than any of the animals that PETA or their disciples claim they are trying to save. As such, these enemies of the state need to be rounded up and dealt with in as severe a manner as the law allows in order to send a message to any other wacko wannabes, with that message being:

Not here, and not on our watch. ***
