I realize this is happening a long ways away from LA; or, is it?

Take the time to read this & you'll quickly see there're more than a few familiar trends, here.

...familiar & disturbing trends.

Pataki is the spiritual godchid of Nelson Rockefeller. NY Pubbies will always be more liberal than the Republican mainstream. Sickening, isn't it?

But unlike the late Rockefeller, Pataki says he's "conservative." Maybe we could sue him under the "truth in advertising" laws.

HELP! California has been taken over by liberals. Forty of our 58 counties voted for GOP Bill Simon for governor but counties such as Los Angeles & San Francisco voted for "Gay" Davis, the governor from hell! We're drowning in liberalism.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that California would have gone Republican, had the candidate been ANYONE BUT Simon. Reportedly, Simon energized the base -- the Democratic base, that is, disheartened Republican voters, and turned fence-sitters "gray."

I think people are forgetting that the Conservative party in New York was founded in reaction to RINO'S like Pataki.

For years, the GOP shoved down me-too liberals like Pataki, down voters throats.

In 1970 James Buckley won a convicing victory over liberal GOP Senator Charles Goodell with his "Isn't it about time WE had a Senator" campaign.

I hope for a little deja vu in New York.

There were so many factors. I do not agree that Simon was a lousy candidate. His PROFESSIONAL campaign staff is a bunch of LOSERS! All of us volunteers and low-level staff were on fire and absolutely committed. The high-paid staff crapped all over us. It's disgusting up the wazoo! My take on why the Republicans stayed home is that THEY BELIEVED "GAY" DAVIS HIGH-PAID SPIN MACHINE and the damn media moguls. Oh, well, it's over and we're stuck with "Gay" Davis and the liberal in-your-face whacky agenda from hell.

This was before the Conservative Party got taken over by corrupt opportunists like Mike Long, who endorsed Pataki for giving two of his daughters cushy jobs in Albany.

The Conservative Party is a lost cause, believe me.

I notice many didn't even read this piece. Liberals won big the day that Bush was elected.

Yeah, I agree.

Al Gore would have been so much better, don't you think?

According to Signor, the current budget for Child Health Plus is $1 billion, under a 65 percent federal/35 percent state funding formula. (This year, however, Signor told me that New York State got additional federal money, because other states did not spend all of theirs. In today's socialist state, there are incentives to waste taxpayers' money.) Five-hundred-thousand children are enrolled, which comes out to $2,000 per child per year.

Classic example of "The Attack of the Poverty Wedge".

The Poverty Wedge being defined as: the amount by which the cost of running a Government anti-poverty Program exceeds the cost of simply cutting Poor People a check and saying, "Here's enough Other People's Money to bring you above the Poverty Line!! You are no longer legally Poor!!"

I sometimes wonder if Dr. Friedman really devised the Negative Income Tax as a serious policy proposal, so much as a subversive way to illustrate the cost and inefficiency of Government "help".

The California performance is not particularly significant because Simon was a flawed candidate, and there was no Senate election to test whether national trends would be reflected in California. Frankly it is good that a Pubbie was not elected governor, because California has such horrific fiscal problems, that the "cure" is not going to be well received. The Dems might was well be on watch until the matter is fully played out. Not all of it was their fault, but a fair portion of it was, ie the difference in the magnitude of California's fiscal problems, and that of other big industrial states, plus the energy contract thingie. California is not really a liberal state in the way New York is. Much of it is more superficial, and a matter of stylistic loyalties.

Actually, the main group in California that didn't vote were minorities. The electorate was more Anglo than it has been since 1994 I think. Hispanic turnout was down massively. That is why Simon ran as close as he did. His problem was that he didn't get any more Dem votes than Davis got GOP votes. In California, that doesn't cut it for a Pubbie.

1) The democrat party doesn't have the White House.(1R-0d)
2) The democrat party lacks a majority in the Senate.(53R-47d)
3) The democrat party lacks a majority in the House of Representatives.(226R-209d)
4) The democrat party lacks a majority of Governors seats across the 50 states.(25R-25d)
5) The democrat party lacks a majority of State Houses across all 50 states. (25R-22d)
6) In total, the GOP won 51.6%, compared to 45% for the party formerly known as democrats.
Put simply, today's democrat party doesn't enjoy majority leadership at either the state or federal level.

New York socialists and blacks were upset that state comptroller Carl McCall, the first black Democrat gubernatorial candidate ever was beaten so soundly.

I don't see why- looks like they're gonna get just as much socialism and goodies under Pataki.
