BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2002--Books & Company is pleased to announce that former Vice President and best-selling author Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, will make an appearance in conjunction with the new release of their books, "Joined at the Heart" and "The Spirit of Family," on Monday, November 25, at 7:00 p.m. Books & Company is located in the newly remodeled Brookwood Village.

Al and Tipper Gore have long considered family their bedrock and have spent many years studying the nature of the American family. Combining personal insight and expert opinions, historical and global perspectives, "Joined at the Heart" and "The Spirit of Family" are groundbreaking books demonstrating that the inherent need for family is stronger than ever. "Joined at the Heart" is a provocative and personal book that explores the contemporary family landscape. In "Joined at the Heart," the Gores share stories drawn from their own experiences, as well as introduce us to a dozen other families they have come to know over the years. "The Spirit of Family" is an inspiring array of world-class photographs exploring the many ways in which the idea of family is being redefined in America. Tipper and Al Gore chart this evolution of the American family in an entirely fresh way, with 260 black & white and color images from many of the country's most acclaimed photographers.

Al Gore is the former Vice President of the United States and author of The New York Times bestseller "Earth in the Balance." During twenty-five years of public service, Mr. Gore has made the family a priority by fighting for programs and policies that are responsive to their needs. Tipper Gore has served as adviser to the President on Mental Health Policy and was special adviser to the Interagency Council on the Homeless during her husband's years in the White House. She worked as a photojournalist for the Tennessean, and "Picture This," a collection of her photographs, was published in 1996. Mrs. Gore's first book, "Raising PG Kids in an X-Rated Society," was published in 1987.

The Books & Company staff is delighted that the Gores will be visiting the bookstore. "We are certain that Birmingham residents will all be interested in meeting the Gores, who have contributed so much to our country - both personally and politically," said Matt Haynes, General Manager of Books & Company. Media requests may be addressed to Tracy Locke, Henry Holt Publicity Department, 212-886-1096.

Al and Tipper Gore have long considered family their bedrock

A dysfunctional family, that is. It's child abuse to raise kids to become Democrats.

"Joined at the Heart"

Better title, considering Al's history:

Joint at the Mouth

"In "Joined at the Heart," the Gores share stories drawn from their own experiences, as well as introduce us to a dozen other families they have come to know over the years."

Unfortunately, the book has to be marketed in plain brown wrapping paper due to the chapter titled "Clintons We Have Known".

I think you should turn up with a copy of Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" and get him to autograph the chapter on "how to steal an election"

After all, that was his exact playbook in Florida two years ago.

"Best-Selling Author" is slightly misleading.

Yes, Al is an author. And yes, he did sell defense secrets to the Chinese for lots of money. But to put them together as "Best-Selling Author" seems to be a stretch....
