ACROSS America, political power rests on a knife-edge. A slight slip could switch control of the Senate, or of the House, or of numerous governors' mansions. --SNIP--Could politics be any worse? Well, for one in eight Americans, it is. California, the richest, most populous, most dynamic state in the country, definitely does not have 50-50 politics. Its public life lacks even the semblance of balanceand it stinks.

There is a black candidate, Stuart Johnson, running against the Democrat, Jane Harmon, in my district. I haven't heard a peep from the state Republicans helping him. I did receive one flyer, paid for by Johnson. He should be right up there with Simon.
Paradise Lost! After this election, this lifelong Republican will re-register Independent.
That's for sure.
You cannot control California anymore with the dominance of the leftists old guards in every aspect of their media.
As you can see a loser like Gov. Davis after he messed up the electric power supply issue, costing the state, and its citizens billions of dollars; HE IS STILL AHEAD? Is that because the Republicans are too inept? Or is it their candidate stinks? Or both?
Kalifornia is populated in large part by people who have discovered that they can vote money for themselves from helpless taxpayers. Only bankruptcy can turn this around. It is not the fault of the Republican party, but the fault of the courts who see no limits to "tax and spend".
San Francisco is nearing the edge of the abyss. The "homeless" people of the nation gravitate toward San Francisco in order to be paid a monthly award for doing nothing. The amount being paid this way is measured now in hundreds of millions of dollars. This amount cannot go up any longer. Where, for example, could San Francisco hope to get a billion dollars for such giveaways?
That's odd... I usually have an expletive between those two words.
It's happening here in Wisconsin, but on the Congressional level: Ron Greer is a conservative (emphasis on conservative) candidate seeking to replace lezbo left-winger Tammy Baldwin in the 2nd district.
The state and national GOP has totally ignored him - no fundraising, no visits by high-ranking Repubs, no nothing.
Then they scratch their heads and wonder why conservatives stayed home or voted for the Libertarian after election results are tallied.
How is it the job of the courts to remedy the stupidity of the voters?
It's not just the "homeless" people of the nation, it's the "homeless" people of the world. Simon appeared on KSFO a couple of weeks ago and proceeded to blow off the host and his potential base with a wishy-washy non-position on border control. (Specifically, he was not sure whether driver's licenses for illegal aliens were a good or bad idea.) This is only one example of what I mean when I say that California Republicans are represented by conservative talk radio, but not by the Republican Party.
Constitutional republics are founded on the principle of limited government. Only powers enumerated in the constitution are to be exercised.
Welfare, for example, is the taking of money from some people to give to other people. That is not a reasonable function of government. The idea that a majority of voters should be allowed to outlaw private property is ridiculous and yet that is the direction in which we are headed. Only the courts can stand in the way of such criminality.
True of the federal government, but this article is about California. State Constitutions generally grant the Legislature the power to tax and spend for whatever purpose the legislature wants.
