Election Through Litigation
Al Gore's decision to contest the Florida election in 2000 until the bitter end has already changed the way free elections are decided. Voters used to have the final say in elections, but this is changing fast as the pending 2002 elections are fought over by judges and trial lawyers practicing scorched-earth tactics at the urging of the Political Parties.
As a result, both the Democrats and the Republicans have been liberated to pursue litigation of the type Al Gore unleashed in Florida. The most recent example is the recent ploy used by New Jersey Democrats to replace disgraced Senator Robert G. Torricelli with a more winning candidate. This may very well be the beginning of a new trend in American politics: Election through Litigation.
The November Election is mere weeks away and the Democrats have a slim one-seat majority in the Senate with eight seats still too close to call. Yet, the Democrats are clearly ready and willing to resist a GOP victory in the Senate. The strategy is blunt No way and over our dead bodies."
Back in the Senate, Roll Call reported that Senate Democrats "are prepared to bring legislative activity to a screeching halt." A top Democratic staffer told the Capitol Hill newspaper that the floor would be tied up in knots "unless the legislation is something we wanted, or agreed-upon items such as an appropriations bill." Democrats also promised to filibuster any GOP attempt to pass a new organizing resolution to take control of committee chairmanships.
Outside the Senate Chambers, Democrats hold fast in the effort to replace a losing candidate with a man they hope can win. Even though the People of New Jersey cast votes in the Primary choosing Torricelli, the Democrat Party has decided that they know best and have replaced him with a handpicked candidate undermining the very meaning of a free election.
The endless lawsuits and negative recriminations by both Parties will certainly poison public opinion against our system of elections. The voters will be infuriated and disillusioned when they see the power of the vote eroded and destroyed with the unfortunate result being the charges of illegitimacy surrounding the winners of many races.
We are living to see freedom slip away. The same happened in the end times of the Roman Empire and Ancient Greece. Then as now, bickering and disunity tore at the seams of liberty. One must remember that Kings and Queens would often allow their courts to interpret and change laws on a whim and these actions led to a revolt of the people and the founding of the United States of America.
It took just a handful of right-wingers to create this great nation of America; it may take just a handful of left-wingers to destroy it.

I heard that!
The Democrats hope to make the party of government the only column on the ballot. Free elections aren't free.
Something must be in the Water!
It would first have to be moving - wouldn't it... generally screaching presumes there's enough speed to cause a screach. The only thing with any momentum in the senate is the fast moving picture that Dems are irrelevant.
...Sounds just like the Communist Vietnamese M.O. who are doing everything thing they can to make .."WE WERE SOLDIERS".. Vietnamese Actor DON DUONG sign a confession that he committed TREASON just for appearing in this oustandig RANDALL WALLACE 'Braveheart in 'Nam Motion Picture starring MEL GIBSON, doesn't it...???
Great point!
The Democrats are doing everything they can BEFORE and AFTER the elections to dictate who wins!
Now we know who is TURING the Axis of Evil...The DEMOCRATS!
With Hillary at the Helm...
