That is er,....Impea, unless you mean err as in error instead of as hesitation. Childish? What pray tell is more childish than looking upon the government as a parent to save us from ourselves?I never implied or inferred that the anti-lottery jokers are puritans(charlatans maybe) or that I or others are poor sinners-though we all truely are (including you) either sinners saved by grace or sinners lost.

I condemn the government's running of liquor stores and compare it's involvement therein and it's dependence upon taxes on cigarettes, beer and wine as hypocritical. The state makes these legal products available to law abiding citizens and then persecute (prosecute does not apply here) them for partaking thereof. Snakes crawl at night, every where but Raleigh, NC, they crawl there, night and day, all year around, since our part time legislature declared itself a full time employee and/or dependent of NC's long suffering citizens.

On an adult level(70 years and counting) I can't believe anyone would plan their retirement around winning a lottery. Can you, on an adult level explain to me , why people cannot save, invest, and play the lottery as well?

You ask if I believe that education really needs more money? I ask you if the clowns in the various fields of entertainment really need more wealth? Who, after all, has been paid so much for doing so many things, we not only could do without, but would likely be healthier and happier for the absence thereof?

Most humans do not expect the lottery to cure everything from AIDS to West Nile disease. We just want a little amusement, similar to what Hollywood provides to movie nuts. What has your vice cured lately?

I signed up 5/6/1998....perhaps your local community college has some remedial reading classes you could take....I am a conservative Christian republican....you got the date wrong, my political affiliation wrong, and you probably didn't understand one word of what I said in my post....please don't get a job at a nuclear power facility, the safety of three or four states may be in the balance.

My mistake and apologies, that was 1998-05-06-only the eight for the year showed up last time, like 8-5-06, very confusing. I stand by every thing else I have said.

The Georgia Lottery had been in place for 10 years

And when video poker began cutting into the state's action, King Roy got his bible-thumping rednecks to ram through legislation banning them.

I love state monopolies. They're a gas!

The lottery is a sucker bet, but if people want it, they shouldn't be prohibited. Lotteries and casino gaming are negative expectation events; in the long run you will certainly lose.

Horse racing and sports betting, however, give the savvy player a chance to come out ahead. Tough, but it can be done, and it's very satisfying when it happens. What's more, with internet betting, one need never leave home. I have a couple of small wagers on horses running in West Virginia and Toronto as I type this.

The STATE SUPREME COURT ruled CORRECTLY that the video poker was in viloation of the South Carolina constitution, and it WAS....you can't just start up a gambling operation against the law....the blood sucking sacks of sh** who owned the video poker machines, being run AGAINST the law, got their redneck butts kicked, as they should have....by the way, did you feel sorry for the baby that DIED in the hot car while her momma played video poker?...oh no, you didn't.

Please ignore the apology I posted in post 45, it was before I read your post 44. If you are everything you claim to be in that post, I am delighted to say that I am not.

That very well may be, but I was speaking about Georgia. To the best of my knowledge, the Georgia law has never been challenged in the courts.

by the way, did you feel sorry for the baby that DIED in the hot car while her momma played video poker?...oh no, you didn't.

Your really into casting unwarranted aspersions, aren't you? Is that some kind of "christian" trait?

Did you feel sorry for the baby who died in a van in the parking lot of a Church school in Youngville, NC? No one was playing video poker, they just had their heads up their asses, as the baby in their charge was dying in the bus. Seems irresponsible people come from all walks of life.

I would be the last one to condemn Christians for mistakes-being one myself. I don't give them a pass however for picking up a child from their home and while being trusted to care for the child as would the parent themselves to deliver them to the proper place at the appointed time and instead leaving them to die in a van with the windows rolled up. THe Christians in the Classroom failed to miss the child as well, obviously-no better or worse than people who make the same lethal mistake while playing video poker. I hold the aleged Christians more accountable, the parents trusted them to be responsible.

"Anti-lottery forces have been calling legislators this summer urging them to oppose a referendum. Opponents have included the Rev. Billy Graham and former UNC basketball player Dean Smith."

The News & Fishwrap must be run by a bunch of Bluebellies!!!

Harumph!

To be called ignorant by someone who posts replies to himself, and can't get simple dates correct, who wrongly judges others, is a badge of honor.....(I still accept your apology...everyone screws up occasionally when trading posts, it isn't a big deal. I was just having some fun with it)...I have had to apologize for getting something 180% wrong when I misread something...don't mind apologizing when I am wrong....also, there is no real personal attack intended, at least from my side, it is tongue in cheeck...just a way to make a point....

The is a difference between ACCIDENTALLY forgetting a child in a car, and leaving one on purpose because one is addicted to gambling....I do not suggest that video poker addicts EVERYONE...but a child died because someone was addicted to it...and YOU mistated WHY video poker was removed in South Carolina...if we are going to present our reasons for support of oppostion, FACTS need to be on the board...video poker was in violation of the SC Constitution.

If you will be honest...come on try...When someone is addicted to gambling, and leaves a baby in a car, that then dies....it does point to something NOT good about video poker....I am not saying that video poker always leads to addiction and children dying....But, you supporters of lotto need to stop avoiding the questions: Do you thing education needs more money to solve its' problems?...Do you think it is better to encourage savings and investment (which do IMPROVE one's station in life) or to encourage a 1 in 13,000,000 hope of getting rich quick?
