The verdict for the Ricky Chavis case will be released shortly. I'm not a law expert but does anyone know what the maximum pentalty in Florida will be for these boys?

So when will they announce the verdict in the guy's case?
I just wonder if 3 people are going to be charged with the same murder.

Why do you keep pulling this from breaking news when this is a big story?

They should NOT have been tried as adults. How can the state declare they are legally competent as adults - yet then prosecute a man who molested them as children? The molester MUST be prosecuted! The hideous nonsense of him being the "adult lover in a relationship" with a 12 yr old boy cannot stand.

My thoughts exactly when do they draw the line. Alex was a twelve year old brutally raped IMO by a sicko who has previously been convicted of molestation. This was a homosexual male and the boys are being punished. Hopefully the other jury finds Chavis guilty.

Well, from what I've read about the older brother, he certainly fit the pattern for someone capable of murder..the younger one might have only to protect Chavis because the man had effectively alienated the boy's affections from his father. I don't know who to believe...it seems more likely that the grownup committed the murder, but without all the facts, how can anyone but the three of them (and the deat man) know for certain?

Yeah. AND we have to wonder if Chavis ever tried to become a Boy Scout leader.
To: Dengar01
Baffling--they found them guilty of 2nd degree murder WITHOUT a weapon.
I thought their father was killed with a bat.
Bizarre, just bizarre.

Chavis's verdict shall be read shortly as soon as the AP or anyone else posts the article I will have it put on this thread.

Baffling--they found them guilty of 2nd degree murder WITHOUT a weapon. I believe the jury tried to place them as accessories to the murder, hopefully this means that Chavis will be convicted of first degree and be the actual bat wielder.

Regardless, the kids seemed to lack a real motive EXCEPT for Chavis. That's why I think he brainwashed them.
To: AppyPappy
If the Dad was sleeping it was possible for them to bash his brains. I think the kids did it but sadly they deserve some kind of mercy as Chavis is a freak and was the major cause of why this murder happened.

From what I have watched, heard, and read, my theory is that Rick brainwashed Alex into thinking his dad was abusing him and didn't love him. It sounded like Terry was even starting to forbid Alex from being with Rick, so perhaps he was close to finding out what was going on.
Rick probably talked them into killing the dad, or pushed them far enough to where they would want to on their own. Derek doesn't seem like the type of kid that needed much pushing either.
So after they kill him, Rick tells em to confess and claim self defense and they would get off easy, but then when they saw that wouldn't work, either, their lawyers convinced them to turn on Rick, or Rick wanted to take the fall.
I think Rick should be sentenced for Conspiracy to commit murder, molestation, and child endangerment. Both the brothers need psyc help and should probably be locked up till 18. Perhaps Derek should stay longer.

The hideous nonsense of him being the "adult lover in a relationship" with a 12 yr old boy cannot stand. There is something more sinister going on here. CNN treated the 12-year old as if he were a manipulative psychopath and the adult "lover" was a poor, innocent victim.
This is all part of the plan to decriminalize pedophilia and rehabilitate the perception of pedophiles as criminals and perverts.
Makes you sorta think that the media elite are mostly pedophiles who want to make their pasttime legal (Malcom Forbes comest to mind).
To: Dengar01
According to Court TV, if I understand the following correctly, the boys are subject to life imprisonment for the counts on which they were convicted:
Brothers guilty A Florida jury has found Derek King, 14, and Alex King, 13, guilty of second-degree murder and arson, rejecting their claim that 40-year-old convicted pedophile Ricky Marvin Chavis killed their father and convinced them to confess. Both boys, who were tried as adults, face sentences of life in prison.
To: Dengar01
Could there be a little politics going on here. I'm guessing from the name that the Chavis character is a latino. There have been so many latinos involved in crimes against kids lately, perhaps, the Florida pols don't want it to look like they're picking on a particular group. That, and the NAMBLA influence.
To: Dengar01
What's more bizarre is that the prosecutor said the boys were telling the truth in the Chavis trial and were lying in this trial--and had both Derek and Chavis swinging the bat.
