"Star Trek" Captains campaign for Ohio Democrat. . .

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- Far from the final frontier, "Star Trek" fans gravitated to a political fund-raiser, drawn by the prospect of seeing no less than two Star Fleet captains.

Tim Hagan, a Democrat running for governor against a Republican incumbent with the Taft family political lineage and 20 times as much money, isn't shy about using his Hollywood connection.

Hagan's wife is actress Kate Mulgrew, who commands a loyal following from her days as Capt. Kathryn Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager."

And on Saturday, a fund-raiser for Hagan's campaign featured Mulgrew along with several of her fellow cast members, including Tim Russ (Vulcan security chief Tuvok) and Garrett Wang (Ensign Harry Kim).

The crew of Voyager was joined by William Shatner, Capt. James T. Kirk of the Enterprise on the original "Star Trek."

Is this any way to run a campaign for governor in the nation's seventh-largest state?

Well, Star Trek always WAS a bit Politically Correct.

However, with Shatner, a Canadian National, doing an appearance for a US politician, isn't that TECHNICALLY a Foreign National making an illegal campaign donation to a US Federal Candidate ?? Especially as they talked it up at the "Trek" conventions. . .

Of course, there IS a Shatner-Ohio connection precedent: Jim Traficant and HIS bad hairpiece, to match the famous "Shatner Turbo 2000". . . .

I thought, in the future, along with no Iraqis to be found aboard any "Star Trek" vehicles, there would also be none of their supporters, the future evolved liberals....

Janeway is easily the worst captain in Star Trek history....Hagan is toast.

Shame.
I never thought Shatner would campaign for a parasite-party candidate.

Does this mean her campaign slogan is going to be RESISTANCE IS FUTILE?

And Seven of Nine has become a preachy, liberal, Clinton-worshiper (kneel before him!) on 'Boston Public'. Kids, prepare to be assimilated into NEAbots

Oh Ms. Ryan! How the mighty have fallen!

I agree. Kate Mulgrew won't help...she was the worst.

I've only seen one poll on this race - from last week, and it was closer than I expected. Taft - 42%, Hagan - 33%. But I don't know anything about the polling firm (Dykes), or who commissioned the poll. Margin of error - 5%.

I remember reading one of Shatner's biographies (honest, I didn't buy it, it was just lying there!) where he compared Checkov's uptight character to a Rush Limbaugh listener. The comparison was not flattering.

Our choices are pretty sad here in Ohio. I think we have a Constitutional Party candidate. Guess I'll be one of the .067% crowd.

Me too. I've never done that before. But this November for the governor's race, I will.

I've got a couple RINOs for senators also. DeWine is cosponsoring a gun control bill with hillery, I'll never vote for him again.

I voted for DeWine in the general last time, against in the Primary....not that it mattered. Why can't we have Blackwell in the Senate instead?
