Summary:
The word of marine geologists William Ryan and Walter Pitman are correct.
The word of God is wrong.
Haha, Who do you believe, Ryan & Pitman or God?

"For the Noah's Ark Hypothesis to be correct, one has to speculate that there was no flowing of water between the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea before the speculated great deluge," says Abrajano. Must one so speculate? Why?

I have Ryan and Pitman's book Noah's Flood. I trust their judgement. I have followed this story closely, R & P's hypothesis for the suddeness of the flood is that there would be one major underwater shoreline for a 'quick' flood and numerous and many leveled shoreline for a 'slow' flood. To my knowledge, only one underwater shoreline has been detected and this is also supported by a 'quick' change in the type of shellfish (freshwater to saltwater types) that have been discovered. Abrajano will have to produce more evidence before I change my opinion.

Anyway, it rained nonstop for 40 days and nights, and the entire planet was flooded, right. And then the water receded and the raven didn't come back, and then the dove did with an olive branch. So what's all this Black Sea stuff about anyway? It was the whole world that was covered with water in the version they taught me.

Forget this nonsense and pick up a Bible. Noah's flood was a reality, and it covered the ENTIRE world, not just the Bosporus like this fairy tale tells us!

I think using the Bible as a scientific text is as silly as using a scientific text as the Bible.

A man will make up any story to justify buying (building) a boat ;-)

I'm outta here, this has turned into a religious thread and I do not discuss religion on FR. Anyone who wants my opinion on the flood in this article, FR mail me. Bye!

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month-on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights. I know I am going to get hit from all sides on this but I believe the waters came from heaven, not the atmoshpere, not some layer of water in orbit, but heaven. Really and symbolically the water from heaven was needed to wash away the sin in the world so that God could start over. This was necessary because God cursed the ground when Adam and Eve sinned.
