An 11-year-old Clearfield girl who brought a bag containing crushed methamphetamine to her elementary school for "show and tell" has been removed from her home. Her mother was charged with child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance.
The girl showed the bag to several friends at Cook Elementary School in Syracuse on May 15 before teachers confiscated it.
Syracuse Police Detective Mark Sessions said Wednesday that police searched the girl's home and discovered several more bags of meth and scales used for weighing the drug.
The girl's 29-year-old mother has been charged in Davis County with child endangerment, a class A misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony. The mom's 31-year-old boyfriend was charged with distributing methamphetamine, a second-degree felony. Police did not disclose the names of the girl, her mother or the boyfriend.
The girl and her two siblings have been placed in the custody of the state Division of Child and Family Services. None of the children was using the drug, Sessions said.
DCFS spokeswoman Carol Sisco said a juvenile judge decided the children will remain in the division's custody at least for the time being.
Sessions said this was the first time he had seen drugs in an elementary school.
Davis School District spokesman Chris Williams said the girl was removed from the school, but did not know if she was transferred to another elementary.
Also last week, a 13-year-old boy at Syracuse Junior High was detained by police after he was allegedly found to be under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
A teacher apparently called police after the boy would not stop laughing hysterically in class, Sessions said. The boy said he was laughing at "the flying monkeys," the detective said.
The boy was referred to 1st District Juvenile Court for third-degree felony possession of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Farmington Bay Youth Correction Center in Farmington.

What Would Stripper Mom Do?
In the view of society, this was bad because the kid wasn't docile and obedient. If the kid was slack-jawed and dopey on Ritalin, that would be no problem at all.
Well, at least the kids are in good hands now. </sarcasm>
Then, she'll be joined by the Stripper Mom on Oprah, and they'll all group-hug and cry.
