The All-American Tax Day Rally will be coming up on April 15th, in Tulsa, at the Downtown Tulsa Post Office (333 W. Fourth), at 6:30PM. Bring signs (with the anti-tax/pro-economic freedom slogan of your choice). Bring flags. Wear red, white & blue. This an opportunity to show your patriotism in the same fashion, and for the same principles as America's original patriots. If you think our current level of taxation is excessive, please try to attend. For more information call Lynn Atherton at 447-1776, or Art Curtis, at 447-0664 (or email at galavanter@juno.com).

Thank you for your encouragement. I think this year's rally will have quite a few people. I've made contact with, and invited a wide variety of people. I'll post how it turns out.

Thanks for the ping.........Not sure that I'll be able to attend, though. I'm off that day...but will more than likely still be ''working'' on my taxes..!!

I've said it before...and I'll say it again..I'd vote for a turnip plant, if they would "promise" to fix..( Flat Tax, Straight % Tax, National Sales Tax, etc..etc...etc.....) our tax system.

Just read something today.....that couples who make $60k each a year...are considered the nation's richest. And pay more than 55% of all income taxes. IF, that's RICH..then I'm Billy Barty.

FRegards,

Just thought I'd let you know what all went on at this year's All-American Tax Day Rally this year. I counted 23 people (including kids) attending altogether. The number is a little disheartening, considering all the work I put into it, and that we had 36 last year, but there were some positive things though. We got considerably more press this time around. When I arrived on site, a Tulsa World reporter was waiting for us. She was pleasant enough, and ended up treating us fairly in her article. Got front page of the Metro section, and a pretty big picture. I got two TV interviews (6 & 8), and two radio interviews (KRMG & KVOO). Last year we got one TV interview, one radio interview, and no Tulsa World. By the way, our press release, just before this year's event made it into five newspapers (that I know of) and one radio station (Tulsa Beacon, Tulsa Today, Sapulpa Daily Herald, The EXTRA, the Drumright Gusher, & KRMG). We got more reaction from the passing taxpayers than from last year's, because of one of our signs that read "HONK if you hate taxes," there was frequent honking. One good-ole-boy in a beat up pickup yelled out the window to Lady Liberty "I'd sure blow my horn if Uncle Sam would leave me enough money to fix the darn thang." What he said was much better than any honk. Of course, we also got some asinine remarks from individuals who have a very warped view of patriotism. One idiot yelled out "taxes are the price of freedom." I guess that means the Soviet Union with its 95% tax rate was the freest place on earth. In response to that line of thinking, I'll need to make up a sign that will read "High taxes are the price of oppression," or "Tyranny for rent -inquire at the blue drop box," or something to that effect for next year. We had more signs this year. Everybody had one or two. I know one participant's arms must have been tired at the end of the night -he carried two signs the whole time. The costumes are good attention getters. Lady Liberty carried her torch, of course, and a sign that read "HONK if you hate taxes" on one side and "Tyranny Turnpike - Exact change required" on the other. There were two colonial patriots. One carried a "Don't tread on me" flag in one hand and a sign that Read "Why pay the IRS? Because they sent your Bill of Rights to collections" in the other. The other patriot (me) carried a Betsy Ross flag. One man dressed up as a blue-collar worker with hard hat, work gloves, shovel & all, carried a sign that read "Give American workers a raise. Cut taxes now!" The biggest attention getter was the banana who carried a sign that read "You're entitled to the fruits of your labor" on one side, and "Yes, we have no bananas... the government seized them." on the other. The thing that hurt the attendance, was the fact that I'm a Staff Sergeant in the army reserve, and had a three day drill, which actually took me out of commission for four days (11th, 12th, 13th, &14th) prior to the event. I would have used that time to make follow-up calls reminding everyone I know about the rally. Some people just forgot about it. Not one Tulsa County Republican attended. I'm pretty disappointed about that, considering that the rally took place in Tulsa. Some Creek County Republicans, and other Republicans attended. We also had our usual contingent of Tulsa Area Libertarians attending. Several Independents attended as well. But for some reason, there were no Democrats to be found. Other signs at the rally read as follows: High taxes hurt American workers. The tax man confiscated my pot o' gold & took the rainbow too. (to be held at next year's rally by a leprechaun -that'll get some attention) Taxes hurt American families. Turn in your freedom here (with an arrow pointing to the drop box). InvoluntaRy Servitude Getting a refund? How nice of the government to give you back some of YOUR own money. Even God only asks for 10%. Taxation is hate. Stop the hate! (I had to make this sign -it was just too funny to pass up) Taxation with representation ain't so hot either. I.R.S. Inalienable Rights Subdued This year's rally didn't have a lot of quantity, but it did have quality. Next year I'll do everything I can to get the numbers up. Art P.S. If you have any suggestions for next year's rally, or would like to help me put it together, please let me know. A.C. galavanter@juno.com
