A photograph that is unplanned and immediatea person with a camera at Mardi Gras is planning on immediate nekkid pictures plain and simple, this guy who took the pic is no different than the people caught groping in the pic....truely sad,but good post!

Too many far better amateur photos of 09/11 ... can't let the average citizen get the best of the "pros", ya know. (wink)

Me too, but look at it this way. Years from now, the image of the firemen raising that flag at WTC will still be seen everywhere. I'd prefer that to some award handed out subjectively.

Just remember that it was this same sort of media people who were caught redhanded sneaking terrorists out of Arafat's HQ and then complained about their rights when arrested.

What a joke. That picture is awful...how in the world did it win an award? There is nothing in that image that deserves an award. These people who judge these contests are SICK - very sad - pathetic

Maybe this photo won because it resulted in the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perps??
To: codebreaker
Gee, based on these criteria he could have won photographer of the decade if he'd snapped a snuff pik.

The 9/11 photo should have won. But media awards are about the media. The media can take a great deal of responsiblity for creating the culture in which those criminals are revelling. Now, they take a picture of a criminal act for which in part they can credit, and they give themselves an award for doing so. This past year in photographs was about terrorism and American heroism, to put our lawless cities and our criminal culture in the forefront is wrong, but considering the source of the award is expected.

Think of it this way... it graphically depicts how low our culture has fallen.

Mardi Gras Sex Assault Photo wins Press Photographers Award for 2001 (not Sept. 11 images) Guess things are back to normal.

I'm always missing stuff - was there any mention of charges being brought or the condition of the woman?

They're just celebrating diversity :-(

Pathetic. Voyeurism pays off.

Your headline is misleading. There were separate categories for "Attack on America". The Mardi Gras picture was in the category "Domestic News (Newspaper)". Much ado about nothing.

LET'S NOT FORGET:
As this woman was assaulted, Kris Kime was brutally murdered after he tried to break up an assault on another female - all while the Seattle Chief of Police Gil Kerlikowski and the Mayor Paul Schell watched the scenes unfold below from their safe perch on top of a Pioneer Square parking garage. Chief Kerlikowski ordered police officers to stay put and not go into the crowd to make arrests. What happened to the miserable cowardly little perp who was eventually arrested for Kime's murder? He got 15 years - that's it.
Justice in Seattle.

The disgusting animals who are assualting the woman in this photo should be identified and charged. This is a pornographic picture of a crime! It should be used by the police to arrest the criminals not given an award.
That this photo was chosen over the heroic images of 9-11 is an abomination and speaks volumes about how the biased liberal media is contributing to the decline of our society.
