Any suggestions?

I'm sure this has been asked here before, but the search turned up negative.

Well, that's an odd question. :)
Personally, I wear little boys' Timberland hiking boots that I got on sale for $29.99 at Famous Footwear last spring. Apparently a boys' size 6 is equivalent to a womans 7 1/2-8.
I have been very happy with the quality and value of my hiking boots for the past year, and would buy Timberland again in a heartbeat. They are really comfortable and durable, with an excellent tread for rock scrambling and good laces.
Timberland is an American company, but I confess I have no idea if the boots were actually produced in the States. For all I know, some Malaysian six-year-old stitched them together (I know, I'm terrible).

Vasque boots, by the Red Wing company. They don't fit everyone, but if they fit your feet, they can't be beat. (However, some of their higher-end boots are Italian made.)

Fellow Dog,
Check out:
For Hiking I prefer German (or are they Swiss?) Boots (Raichle).
Hope this helps!

Not sure if they are American made but Danner was what I wore (every day, tennis shoe like comfort) in service and use for hunting now. Their Arcadia or Ft Lewis styles are gore-tex and they have insulated and non-insulated versions in saddle brown or GI black. Make sure ya get a hank of 550 parachute cord to make laces with and your tootsies should be safe and sound from all the woes of the bush you can toss at em........
They are as tough and as light as Titanium IMHO........Stay Safe

Did you two have a kid? :)

Red Wing makes very high quality work and hiking boots.

I absolutely LOVE my Danners. Had a nightmare a few weeks back about losing a pair, which I suppose means I like them a bit TOO much, but..
Website is here.

I read of some a few months ago but can't remember the brand name.
I will search again tonight after work but now I must run.

Bump for Danner boot excellence. Some are made in USA, some in Italy.
All are top-notch.

Red Wing Irish Setters. Best boots I ever owned, but they aren't cheap.

I'm sure this has been asked before . . . Someone asked about combat boots a few months back. I usually check out epinions.com before buying anything, but unfortunately, there isn't much there about boots. For good deals and reliable service, I also always check out bizrate.com. Look under apparel. Good luck!

New Balance has American made hiking boots. I love their running shoes.

I believe U.S. Cavalry carries Danner boots. I'm sure they have a website.
