Late in today's White House press briefing, Ari was answering a question from CNN's Major Garrett, a question about the recent violence in Israel. Midway through Ari's answer, which decried the killing of innocent Israelis, Helen Thomas interrupted Ari to shout out; Palestinian innocents are being killed too.

Ari politely explained to Helen that terrorist attacks by Palestinian groups was inexcusable. Then, she interrupted him again! "But Palestinians are fighting for their homeland!"

Calmly, politely, and beautifully, Ari said to Helen Thomas, "If you support these acts, then you support terrorism." It was a great moment!!! I hope others heard it live, as it happened.

Immediately after that beautiful zinger, Major Garrett added the final embarrassment for Thomas. He said to Ari, "now, would you finish your answer to my question".

I hope others can attest to my version of this.

I don't know how long it takes for the transcript of White House briefings to be available online, but please, if anyone finds it, add it to this thread.

I applaud Ari Fleischer's patience and politeness to Helen Thomas, but frankly, I would slap her silly.

Thomas has been an embarrasment since the Reagan years. Aren't there any enforceable codes of conduct in the Briefing room? Her privileges should be suspended or something for interrupting someone else's turn to ask questions, especially since it was simply argumentative and disruptive.
