Opinions about promoting Hugh Hewitt on Free Republic can be roughly divided into three groups:

1 - Hugh is an "enemy" of Free Republic!
WRONG!
"Who is this Philistine?"
asks rock-throwing David [FR] as he
attacks the infidel Goliath [HH]."

2 - Hugh is a "parasite" on Free Republic!
WRONG!
A Nile crocodile [FR] will eat almost anything.
But it won't eat an Egyptian plover [HH] -
not even when the bird walks right in to the crocodile's mouth!
This is because the birds sometimes pick the crocodile's teeth
and help to keep its mouth clean.

3 - Hugh is a "FRiend" of Free Republic!
RIGHT!!!
(Well, "CENTER-right," anyway.)
"What's good for Hugh Hewitt is good for Free Republic"
- and vice versa, for the most part.

What do YOU think? And WHY?

(Constructive criticism is encouraged, but please prepare to defend your opinion with FACTS, as I shall.)

Virginia Postrel has a high opinion of him, so unless you're a paleo or isolationist or more radically religious you'll probably like him.

I intend to BUMP FReepers in the order that they are mentioned here.
(All others, please do NOT be offended if I miss pinging you early in this thread.)

My REAL "Hugh Hewitt PING list" is still "under construction." ;o)

Can anyone tell me what the connection between Hugh and FR is?

Is there some history here?
He never fails to mention FR on his program.
I'm just curious.

I used to call Hugh years ago when he was on KFI. When he came back to the area on KIEV, I began calling again and citing FreeRepublic. Now, he recognizes it as a great source.

I am one of those "Dimaggiatti" listeners, and I love Hugh Hewitt. When I contributed the the NRSC, I printed my receipt and faxed it to all the democratic senator's offices! Hugh called me a "great American." It was a thrill for me. He mentions Free Republic often and urges the audience to go there. Doug from Upland often calls. He is the "Great American." Fellow Freepers, support Hugh Hewitt.

If every time HH mentions FR, someone gets interested and looks at FR, it's fine for all of us. The more Coast-watchers, the better. Plus you can't possibly buy that much good publicity (HH for FR, and FR for HH!) that each provides the other! Hugh makes it clear on his show that FR's not "his" site, but his appreciation of it is obvious. Thanks, Hugh, Generalissimo, web Xena and all!

I listened to him everyday when he was on in the AM. It's harder to listen to him with his new time.

What I like the most is his regular guests. He has variety of people from military, congress, pollsters, literature, etc. He is great. Worth listening to.

I used to listen to Hugh all the time, except when he would do the film trailers on fridays, Shakespeare, and bible hour stuff.

Unfortunately, since he made his time switch, I have not been able to catch his show.

I am wondering who screwed him out of the morning time slot? Moving to the afternoon/evening is going to be murder on his ratings. Who the hell listens to talk radio at night?

Is there anyone we can complain to to try to get him his earlier slot back?

Mike Gallagher just doesnt cut it.

Indexing for the "Hugh Hewitt bump_list"
so that THIS thread will appear whenever anyone searches Free Republic for Articles+Replies to:"Hugh Hewitt".

This thread will ALSO appear in a simple Free Republic search for "Hugh Hewitt, since I included those words in my title.

(And, perhaps SOMEDAY this thread will also appear in a "Hugh Hewitt" search on Yahoo!, now that they incorporate mechanized search results from Google. Those electronic "Google-bots" LOVE the information density at Free Republic!)

Note that the FR discussion thread about Hugh's Klamath Falls editorial made Yahoo!'s "Top Ten!" of "Hugh Hewitt" urls!

To: DoughtyOne

Great Job of keeping this line of information going...and it's incredible to see all the
other rallies popping up around the country.

I heard a caller on the Hugh Hewitt show this morning (Fri.; via internet at www.kiev870.com)--
enthusiatically announced the rally to start at 1 PM...I can only guess that
this is likely one of the Republican folks associated with Tod, last weekend's manager.
So, if folks can get there and get the demonstration going at 10 AM...everyone should "hold on"
and reinforcements should start appearing around 12:30 to 1 PM as our
friends who don't know about www.freerepublic.com or don't have internet access might be
following the lead of what they hear on radio.

Also, Professor Hewitt mentioned freerepublic.com favorably (with a caveat that a few
of us go "over the top" occassionally...Jim Robinson would concur with that!).
But Hewitt's favorable mention of this site is a good step forward...he is a very visible
Republican of the moderate conservative type. Even if I disagree with some of his stances,
I respect his intellectual firepower and am happy that he has essentially "shaken our hands".

Great job...keep up the good work!

Posted on 11/22/2000 07:09:50 PST by Clinton's a liar

The battle lines have been drawn. It should be clear to every FReeper what we must do now. The Florida Supreme Court has legislated from the bench and interpreted those laws and in doing so they have told a member of the Executive Branch (the Secretary of State) HOW she must do her discretionary job. This is a CLEAR violation of the constitutional separation of powers in both areas.
If you've called, please call again. If you've e-mailed, please e-mail again. If you've faxed, please fax again. If you haven't done all three, WHY NOT???

This is the end game, folks. Just do it, and do it again!

I like how Hugh has helped us explain how immigration, especially illegal immigration, has been a serious problem in southern California.

Oh, that's right, he never mentions it. And when the subject is forced on him he's been for amnesty and open borders.

I don't understand your hyper enthusiasm for this ambitious, self-promoting yuppie carpetbagger. Cleveland needs to take him back.
