Lady bugs!
Self | Self

Posted on 10/14/2001 4:33:52 PM PDT by Jaxter

I'm not normally a tin-foil hat wearing paranoid, but has anybody in western Pennsylvania noticed the incredible amount of ladybugs? I went for a walk with Mrs. Jaxter yesterday afternoon and the first thing that happened was a ladybug landed on my nose, then another one on my leg. They were all over the place. One actually bit my wife, or at least did something to leave a red mark on her arm. We took our normal 3 mile walk and they were everywhere.

I live in the Pittsburgh area and the wife talked to her mother up in Brookville today, and she said that there's lots of them up there too. I'm sure it's nothing like anthrax carrying Taliban killer bugs, but I was just curious if anybody else has noticed this. I'm 51 and I've never seen so many ladybugs or seen them act so weird. Oh! Well, flame suit on...

LOL. They are all over the place in Michigan, too. This happens from time to time here. It's not a yearly occurence but it is not at all uncommon. However, until this year I had no idea the little creeps could actually bite.

There are plenty of them in SW Ohio too, just like every year, for the last several years.

Actually this is the time of year that ladybugs seek shelter for the winter. One year, I had literally hundreds of them up in my attic. Nothing unusual in my opinion but I had to give you the tinfoil, in good humor of course.

We had them last year in Southern Virginia.

Apparently they were released in Georgia in peach orchards and got out of hand and are moving North.

As bugs go, they have a great 'image' compared, for example, to house flies or cockroaches

So relax.

And they have zilch to do with terrorism.

Well. Between the biting ladybugs and the ballon spiders in Dallas, I'm not going to get a wink of sleep tonight.

I am already scratching and slapping at nothing.

We in SE Michigan have been inundated with them also...however, it is due to the unusually wet weather in the fall...

They are a foreign import lady bug variant - and have been in our area for 4-5 years. A real pain when they get into the house, like on a houseplant, because they will hatch out and turn the ceiling orange with their numbers.

Yes, they bite - no, they don't carry anthrax

They also are here in Ontario.
We NEVER had them before.
Can't open the windows or the room is inundated.

ladybugs

Some one needs to push the abuse button on these kinds of posts. Did you balance you report by mentioning gentlemenbugs? YOU DID NOT.

IF you are going to do a report on ladybugs you must at least mention Paul Begala.

Geezzze!!!
