That's what ABC said also.
However, on NBC they are reporting it as fact. More rumors of war?

Joey Chen reported at the top of the hour on CNN that the report of recovered firemen alive was untrue. Says she doesn't know how the story got started.
Nothing anywhere else.

There is another e-mail hoax that sicko's are circulating which furthers threats ala "don't go here (substitute local landmark in your area) because of threats".

CNN just reported that the 5, were rescue people who had fallen into a hole, and were pulled out by their friends. I don't what we can believe anymore, but they said this.

I heard he rode it down from the 82nd floor, and only had broken legs and ankles....must be a FReeper, huh?
To: Mark17
ABC Radio (WABC in NY) just said the same thing. CNN just got something accurate!!

2 Fireman were rescued, not five.... and those two were rescuers had only been buried for an hour or two. This per FoxNews.

They named the guy who rode the debris down 82 floors. He was a Port Authority official, so that one should be easy to trace. I don't recall the name, McCoughlin?
To: Deb
Supposedly he was a port authority policeman. I'd heard, from the usual network types, yesterday morning that he was on the 82nd floor. By last night, Stone Phillips was saying he was on the 86th floor when the tower collapsed. We'll see when he emerges from the hospital to tell the story himself.
To: Deb
We all heard it last night on Fox, while 2 survivors were being interviewed. The man who rode the tower down was not one of the ones being interviewed but the woman interviewer (I forget who) told his story. My son just corrected me, it was the 82 floor. Unbelievable!

FOX spent quite a bit of time around 3PM EDT showing the guys being rescued. Who am I going to believe CNN or my lyin' eyes?
To: tscislaw
That's great. Both of 'em.
