Mayor Eric Adams on Friday blamed the shocking rush-hour shooting onboard a Brooklyn subway car on an agitator suffering from “severe mental health” issues, as he pushed for legislation that would allow police to institutionalize mentally unstable people.
Adams claimed a 36-year-old aggressor was not “in the proper frame of mind” when he was filmed brawling with another man and was shot by his own gun onboard an A train as it pulled into the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Street station Thursday night.
“When I looked at this tape and broke it down piece by piece and frame by frame, it is clear that it personifies what our pursuit is involved around those with severe mental health illnesses,” he told NY1.
“And as the investigation unfolds, we’re going to see the nexus between the actions that took place there and the many of the random acts of violence that just unnerves New Yorkers.”

Funny, I remember Trump saying the same thing a few years ago, but INGSOC media and their Dem friends wanted to listen to the firearms prohibitionists instead.
Who’s severe mental heath problems? The mayors? The governor’s? The DA’s? The perpetrator’s
They prob mean to point tge finger at the victim
“In fact, half of the nearly 40 perps busted for attacking MTA employees in the subway system last year had histories of mental illness.”
Noting that they have mental illnesses is useless unless you are prepared to do something about the mental illness.
Everyone involved was at fault on this one. There was a really interesting take on this on another thread from a FReeper who had obviously spent some time reviewing the vids.
That was fast, almost like it was scripted.
The way Fox is covering it, it must be the 1st shooting in NY ever. It’s a local issue...geez
Adams has “severe mental health” issues.
If we’re saying the perp has mental health issues then I’m presuming he’s not white?
“...legislation that would allow police to institutionalize mentally unstable people...”
Like religious republican conservative people?
“Everyone involved was at fault on this one. “
Or maybe no one. At any given time a society has bad people, or you might call them good people doing bad things.
A society will not survive if it drains too much of its energy on non-contributors. They must be dealt with cheaply.
Thank the Cuomo’s and Hochul for closing psych centers. And since Andrew Cuomo and Hochul closed state prisons, and Hochul is planning on closing more this year, the nutcases won’t even be sent to prison like they used to be when they commit crimes. The streets of New York City are a veritable looney bin.
as he pushed for legislation that would allow police to institutionalize mentally unstable people.
a young Hispanic activist reporter named heraldo rivera brought to light the horrendous conditions in a mismanaged mental institution named willow brook in Staten island NY. This led the way to outpatient facilities where the mentally ill can get thier meds and be responsible enough to take it, SURE. The rat politicians scurried to be the first and pass legislation that would ultimately dump these mentally ill on the streets to fend for themselves and close the facilities across the state saving money. Now we are hearing we need to institutionalize these dangerous people and the idiot is looking towards the police to do it, the ones and cancelled and its not thier job anyway

Any such problems before the mental hospitals were closed down in the 1970s?
I’d guess that’s pretty much the gist of it. Anything remotely possible to explain away a minority’s actions that could deflect from an overall ‘group’ mentality.
