HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Republican U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale of Montana abruptly dropped his reelection bid on Friday — the second time in the past month that the hardline conservative lawmaker has entered and then quickly dropped out of a congressional race.
Rosendale cited defamatory rumors and a death threat against him that prompted the lawmaker to call law enforcement to check on his children as reasons for retiring at the end of his term in January 2025.

Asked about it at lunch today. Apparently Rosendale is suing whoever spread this rumor about him but I have no confirmation on it. Just what a few people from Bozeman told me today.
10-4. Thx.
Off to the Cat’s Paw :-)
Thank you very much.
Or, perhaps it’s because he’s 63, independently wealthy, his district is solid GOP so Downing will win it easily, and he doesn’t need a congressional seat to amass more money and would rather enjoy retirement as opposed to being harassed by lunatics like you.
You’re a smear monger.
Yeah, right. If you do some basic Internet searches you’ll see that he apparently knocked up a 20-year old staffer. I guess he’ll be sharing that retirement money.
“Internet searches” oh, OK. Gullible and a big fan of the UniParty. You’re a real winner.
Why do you even post here? All you do is tear down Trump Republicans which makes me believe you’re a Democrat.
Whatever, stick you head in the sand and pretend all is well and Rosendale simply resigned to spend more time with his family. Or that he was scared out of office by rumors. Maybe Rosendale is just weak.
Looks like ‘someone’ was unhappy with the part Matt Rosendale played in keeping McCarthy out of the Speaker’s chair...
What happened in just a few days that caused him to change his mind? The national political “climate” hasn’t changed that much in that time.
When a politician cites threats and rumors as a reason for canceling a campaign that usually means that the rumors have a bit of truth to them.
Serious threats should be turned over to law enforcement so they can track down the perps and see if the have serious intent and means to harm someone or just spouting rhetoric and being an online bully. If the FBI can track down everyone who was at the Capitol on 1/6, they can find the person making those threats.
Of course, with how violent the left has become over the past few years, I can understand why someone would want to get out of the DC swamp. However, I have more respect for those who are willing to fight the swamp and the left and call them to task for their actions. And, the sudden change in his stance makes me suspicious.
You’re getting angrier in your posts each passing day, UniParty shill.
Just admit you’re voting for Biden and that you believe all rumors started by Democrats based on zero evidence. Now Rosedale is suing for defamation but you believed it.
You realize you are spouting newbie gibberish. Why don’t you take a break and read some history on FR?
