OLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Republican Matt Dolan has landed the endorsement of former U.S. Sen. Rob Portman in the fractious three-way primary to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown this fall, a potentially important boost in the final run-up to the contest.

In a letter addressed to fellow Ohioans, the Cincinnati Republican and his wife, Jane, said they decided that Dolan's “conservative record of accomplishment and his commitment to continue to focus on achieving results in the U.S. Senate set him apart” from his rivals, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Trump-endorsed Cleveland businessman Bernie Moreno.

The Portmans said LaRose and Moreno were also “good people, who care deeply about our state,” but that Dolan, a Cleveland-area state senator, was their choice.

“America faces tremendous challenges," they wrote, "and it is more important than ever that we elect leaders who embody conservative values and principles and have a track record of getting things done.”

All three Senate contenders had sought Portman's backing. He's a moderate with a strong reputation in Republican circles, including for his skill at bipartisan dealmaking. He helped negotiate the $1 trillion infrastructure bill signed by Democratic President Joe Biden in 2021.

He couldn't be bothered helping Trump pass an infrastructure bill, which would have included FAR less graft.

Portman’s endorsement should be the kiss of death for Dolan.

Portman retired in disgrace after flip-flopping on gay marriage. Turned out he had a gay son and couldn’t separate his personal problem from his civic duty. His endorsement will mean little or nothing for Dolan in the primary.

First things first. Wicker is up in Mississippi. Primary is next week I do believe.

Miss. is red. No pussy-footing around this year.

Unfortunately we will get screwed again by vote splitting. The base will split for the conservatives and the rino squish Dolan gets in. How many times.

“So who is the MAGA candidate in MS?”

Wicker has no viable opposition in the primary or the general; the Rats don’t even object to him enough to compete. Like it or not, we’re stuck with him.

Portman is a loser and a RINO. Dolan is liberal scum. Here are some examples of Dolan’s “conservative record of accomplishment”:

Pro-abortionist

Anti-gun

Supported “contact tracing” and dictatorial powers for “health” officials during the plandemic

Opposed arming teachers (or any armed security) in dangerous schools

Supports student loan “forgiveness”

Supports “green” energy mandates

Favors higher property taxes

Favors handouts in corrupt ghetto areas under the guise of “neighborhood development”

Yeah, he’s pretty conservative all right. Portman endorsed liberal stooge Jane Timken in 2022 instead of J.D. Vance. Dolan’s obviously the most liberal stooge running this time around so naturally a simp like Portman gravitates in that direction.

Yep. That means I’ll vote for Bernie. Hope he’s as good as JD.
Sherrod Brown has got to go!

Wicker has found the “sweet spot” where neither side dislikes him enough to challenge him.

Thanks Rob. I was on the fence, but Dolan is a non-starter for me after this.
