College junior wins GOP primary against 10-term incumbent NC state lawmaker: ‘Lot of hard work’

A North Carolina college junior is heading for the general election after defeating a 10-term incumbent state representative.

Wyatt Gable, 21, joined “FOX & Friends” on Thursday after beating 81-year-old incumbent state Rep. George Cleveland in North Carolina’s Super Tuesday election by 95 votes. Cleveland has represented the district for two decades.

When asked how he won, Gable said it was “just a lot of hard work.”

“A lot of doors knocked, a lot of phone calls made, and just a lot of people that were helping me out, and I really appreciate it,” he said.

Gable said he is “very confident” about winning the seat in November, given that the 14th District is a typically red district.

Republican? Democrat?

Republican would be interesting.

Democrat? Just business as usual.

I wish him luck. I hope sincerely, if he’s sincere, that he will get elected.

The idea behind Gable’s run for office began during the COVID pandemic.

After enduring lockdowns and witnessing what he believed was the government stripping away individual freedoms, Gable reached out to his then-Rep. Cleveland with no response.

“I remember I was sitting in my microeconomics class, and I wrote him an email and never heard anything back,” he said. “And I just remember how it felt. And I don’t want anyone to feel the same way I felt, you know, not being left out. So that’s where I got the idea. And here we are now.”

Note that it is a key emotional event as the driving force.

When the unions/communists/liberals look for a leader, they look for the young passionate individual, passion being key to success. Then they control him. Look at all the pervert activists.

I hope an adult seasoned warrior steps in to help and guide him.

Thus, a reminder to ALL of us to find a young person to mentor.

I’m glad the 20-year incumbent was retired. Five contiguous terms (10 years) is long enough, after that one needs to go back to the district and experience the “success” or not of one’s past governing. However, the “winner” just a junior in college 21 years old even with the right conservative principles where’s his life experiences to give him the wisdom for the job.

I am afraid this is just another professional politician gestating him being conservative makes him marginally acceptable. I would be voting against him in every following primary. No more professional politicians!

I am waiting to see how he votes, if he wins. I don’t care how long somebody is in politics, if their politics are acceptable to me. I care most about a reliable conservative vote than anything else.

After about 5 House terms (10 years) the Beltway captures them and they usually don’t know it. Its time for them to go.

Having a 21-year-old in Congress and believing he’ll be effective is like believing those “Boy Doctor” TV shows represent reality. Anyone really think a teenager is mature & experienced enough to be a practicing doctor? There’s more to the job then just saying or even believing in the right conservative things. Life experiences are vitally important, and a 21-year-old college junior has few!

If you’re expecting perfection, just give it to the Democrat and be done with it. He will season over time.

Conservatives tend to be their own worst enemies at times. They won’t vote for a conservative, because he’s too old or too young or that he’s taken a position that we disagree with, but he’s solid otherwise, or anything you can think of.

All I can say is that, since you know what perfection is, run. You run for office.

I said I would vote against him in the primary but for him in the general. 99.9% of the time even an inappropriate GOP’er is preferable over a Rat. The point is moot I’m not in his state or district.

I don’t require perfection if I did no one would get my vote, not even me! Most of our problems are caused by both the left & right of our professional political class. A good example is McConnell, he went to Congress as a page and essentially never left! I think it’s foolish to continue to enable the professional political class and think we will get the change we need.

Like Dan Bongino says, you can't trust any of them. You watch what they do, not what they say.

I agree with you that, at the primary level, to draw the most blood, but on voting day, to vote for what you have.

Pretty good chance that Rep. Cleveland doesn’t know how to use email, doesn’t understand why it’s important these days, and doesn’t really care.

We really, really, really need term limits in this country.
