Ukraine says it has sunk a Russian Black Sea patrol ship near Crimea

Ukraine said Tuesday it had sunk a Russian patrol ship off the coast of occupied Crimea, claiming another victory over the Kremlin's forces in the hotly contested waters of the Black Sea.

Moscow did not confirm the claim, which would represent the latest blow to its naval power as Kyiv strikes targets deep behind the war's front lines, even as its army suffers setbacks on the battlefield.

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said that it had used high-tech sea drones in an overnight attack on the large patrol ship Sergey Kotov near the Kerch Strait, which separates the annexed peninsula’s eastern coast from mainland Russia.

The agency published a video purporting to show the ship being blown up and going up in flames. It did not say anything about the fate of the ship’s crew.

The other nice thing is, Turkey isn’t letting any warships into the Black Sea

So as more and more BSF ships are eliminated, the fleet shrinks and its effectiveness goes down

There’s a noticeable degradation in performance already ... expect even more this year

Wrong again. You're purposely trying to mislead FReepers again Frenchie.

You know darn well what a zeeper is.

Here's annother friendly reminder for you (courtesy of aMorePerfectUnion):

Zeeper

noun [ U ] politics /ˈzee.per/ us C2

Derivation:

from the abreviation of Zelensky + FReeper the obsessive beliefs that:

・RuZZIA! is the only force acting on the world, causing all calamity.
・The globohomopedos behind western nations don't exist, despite all evidence
・Ukraine is not corrupt
・Taxpayers in the USA are morally obligated to pay for the pensions and government operations in Ukraine
・There is only one side to issues

Compare

・Neocon
・Globohomopedo
・Socialist

Examples

・"Rrrrrrrreeeeeeeee!!!! Putin!!!!!!!"
・Those Zeepers are puposefully blind.

Europe has several strategic interests in driving Russian forces out of occupied areas of The Ukraine.

All the hydrocarbon deposits that lured greedy gangster Putin to attack in the first place, can pay back war costs over the next couple of decades. International rule of law could be preserved, Russian military capability neutralized, and deterrence restored. Sea control over the Black Sea from Crimea will contain Russia and defend Ukraine from future aggression. And it is just the right thing to do.

As for the west’s “soft power” sanctions on Russia, Gazprom now operates at a loss, and the five year transit agreement for the Russian gas still flowing through Ukrainian pipelines expires at the end of 2024, after which Hungary, Slovakia and Austria will be untethered from Russian economic influence, and Russia untethered from that last big bit of Natural gas income from Europe, with no physical means to move that product to other customers. Putin squandered that Strategic market, for good.

Russia just announced another 500K BPD production cut on their crude oil, as well as another export ban on gasoline, this time for six more months (totaling 9 months out of 12, with the other recent ban) supposedly for “planned maintenance”. Not the best “planning” comrades.

Nazi Germany, like Putin’s fascist experiment of Novo North Korea in Russia, posted an increased GDP number and low unemployment, as they ran big budget deficits and printed money, to pour into the bonfire of the war. It was not real value being created, but rather a measure of how quickly they were expending value in the short term.

Europe’s gas storage emerged from their warm Winter with record high volumes on hand, which will drive prices lower over the Summer. Prices had already returned from the temporary highs at the start of the war when most of the Russian supply was shut off, and Nordstream pipelines were demolished. Europe is over the hump on transitioning to non-Russian suppliers, and the last of the land locked stragglers will have their Russian gas turned off by year’s end.

The end of an era, because of Putin killed the goose that laid the Golden eggs.

Europe has several strategic interests in driving Russian forces out of occupied areas of The Ukraine.

There is no scenario happen short of starting a hot war with Russia and, very likely, not even then.

And, there is absolutely NO will in this country or in any country in Europe for a NATO war with Russia.

Even 68% of the French oppose the idea.

So, there are two options -- Ukraine surrenders and saves what's left of Ukraine. Or Russia keeps going and takes as much territory as necessary to protect its borders.

You, apparently, however, want to turn Ukraine into Palestine. And, the people in Ukraine don't want that.

Our defenses Russian defenses are outdated.

These are Russian ships getting sunk, not US or NATO ships. Not an insignificant difference. What is shows is Russian ship borne defenses from small craft or naval drones are inadequate.

This war keeps on demonstrating that Russian weapons and combat operations do not live up to their hype and Western weapons and derived operations work better.

(Russia losing a thousand a day to gain a few city blocks per week is not a high standard of winning by any definition.)

>Let us know when that alleged Russian Victory Parade happens

Right now, it looks like never<

The most ardent proponent of U.S. aid for Ukraine, Neocon Queen Victoria Nuland knows the Russian Victory Parade is on its way.

That’s why she announced her retirement from the State Department today.

She’s jumping off Zelensky’s ship before it sinks.

The facts are that those Russian warships were sunk, regardless of who reports it.

They are losing one about every other week so far this year - the same way.

Those ships cost $60 - $80 million a piece, and take years to produce. They have specialized functions (like the landing ships, and the Kalibr cruise missile launch capability) that are in short supply to Russia, and cannot be replaced through the Bosporus Straits for the duration of the war.

Simply blow the bridges to Crimea, sink the ships, and commence the bombardment. There is a scenario for you. Provide Ukraine 10,000 Artillery shells per day out of existing inventories, 1,000 cruise missiles, etc.. There is another scenario.

Bottom line: The West can meter out as much intensity as it wants, through how much we supply. We could surge enough to expel Russian forces in a few months, anytime the mood strikes in earnest.

It is better in the long term that the Russian military be thoroughly demilitarized in the process - so they will likely be strung along they are until bled dry. Putin is a sucker for that - he can’t leave, because this Operation is his baby. After the Russian Military collapses, then the private armies of Putin’s Capos can fight over the scraps left of Russia.

Nuland got passed over for the number two position at State, and is retiring in a huff. She had earlier come back into the State Department from retirement, because the Biden Admin offered her the number 3 job, but her star is no longer rising.

The Sergey Kotov was one of six patrol boats belonging to Project 22160. Two remain to be completed and activated. All construction was at Zelenodolsk, on the Volga River. From there they can access the Black Sea without using the Bopsphorus Straits.

The Sergey Kotov was the last Project 22160 vessel commissioned on July 30, 2022. The remaining two, the Viktor Veliky and Nikolay Sipyagin were scheduled for a 2023 commissioning. Construction should be nearly complete.
