“Well, if his boss can get away with it, why can’t he?”

Even with higher clearance, when I was handed a Top Secret (USN) folder to read, I’d instantly break into a sweat.

Sickening.
I don’t understand putting classified documents in cardboard boxes at all. Why aren’t there special boxes with locks on them?

The answer is because there are evidently no consequences for being irresponsible. Just look at what’s gone on now for many years with these egregious failures to secure and protect classified info at the highest levels. NOTHING is being done to the guilty parties so it just gets worse.

If destroying 33,000 emails, after they were subpoenaed, doesn’t get a conviction, nothing will.
These leftists own the press, courts, DOJ, & investigative bureaus. I fear there’s no coming back.

I had a TS/SCI and worked in a SCIF.
I don’t recall “oops” being a security violation excuse.
I don’t recall any excuse.

I’m going to tell a story for perspective about all this classified information drama.

As the official designated facility security officer I was in charge of handling clearances and classified material for a government contractor:

https://www.adamosecurity.com/what-is-an-fso/

We had a situation where a crucial piece of information was unexpectedly marked “confidential”. The naval architect who absolutely had to have this information did not have a security clearance and contract deadlines were in danger of being missed. A Navy Lieutenant Commander called me and basically threatened and yelled at me to allow the naval architect to review the information. I refused. There was no way I was going to do that. The end result was that we managed to get the naval architect an interim clearance in about 48 hours.

The point is, when I hear these stories about classified information being thrown around like trash, I’m appalled. One other point, in 20 years in the Navy and several years dealing with classified information, it was always my understanding that the President had ultimate authority and could declassify pretty much anything he wanted to, unlike, say, a Vice President or senator.
