On Tuesday’s broadcast of “CNN News Central,” co-host Sara Sidner stated that the hotter-than-expected January CPI inflation report that showed an increase in monthly inflation for both the overall and core inflation rates from the monthly rate in December with the annual overall rate falling from 3.4% to 3.1% from December while the annual core inflation rate held steady from December at 3.9% is “another sign the economy is getting better and better.” Even though consumers are “really worried about those numbers, especially at the grocery store.”
Sidner said, “This morning, another sign the economy is getting better and better. The first big inflation report of 2024 spelled some good news for consumers. Prices rose by 3.1% for the last 12 months. That’s a slight pullback from December’s rate, but not as much as economists had expected. Remember, prices surged after the pandemic. We all felt it, peaking at 9.1% in June of 2022. The Federal Reserve introduced 11 aggressive rate hikes in its battle to try to bring down those inflation numbers.”

Propaganda is more dangerous than any weapon. When it explodes, it’s a civil war. No news is better than Beltway scripts read aloud by reporters no more a journalist than I am a neurosurgeon.
And this is probably “normal”. It’s one of the failings of Democracy. The counter-balance to this in elections would be that stupid people are too lazy to vote. This is what is wrong with “ballot harvesting” and even “get out the vote”.
Our Republic supposedly depended not just on a vote of its people but on an invested leadership. It is easy to see, however, with a quick look at the amendments to the US Constitution that we have largely destroyed and removed any investment of leadership.
Americans didn’t like how US Senators were selected, for instance, and thought they might be too invested in who selected them. Now, Senators are elected by the people and report to no one, save their mega-donors.
If you think about it, a Constitutionally Limited Government means that the People cannot really be trusted to protect their own best interests. The Founders knew that they were mostly stupid.

I sometimes think these economic “experts” are being paid to promote the government’s narrative. At other times I wonder if they really are this ignorant.
