Several times here people like me have noted that many American Jews have little or no interest in the State of Israel. When Exodus with Paul Newman and the Ten Commandments with Charlton Heston were in theaters, it was a different story.
Pew Research in 2020:
Caring about Israel is “essential” to what being Jewish means to 45% of U.S. Jewish adults, and an additional 37% say it is “important, but not essential,” according to a new Pew Research Center.
2024:
Articles say a certain percentage gathered in sympathy for the murdered Israelis after Oct.7th, feeling close to fellow Jews there for the first time in decades.
On a one on one basis, yes, you are correct. But in the current situation, there’s a great deal of peer pressure in that clique to at least appear to support Israel. If only to virtue signal, that class will temporarily turn away from financial support of the Dems and likely will stay home in the election. They won’t vote Republican, but that doesn’t matter. They only have to not vote for the Dem.
