Every child in Illinois government schools will be subjected to intrusive “mental health” screenings and data-gathering schemes starting this fall under a controversial new state law, opening the door for further mass-medicalization and surveillance of children as well as huge profits for politicians’ Big Pharma campaign donors. Critics are sounding the alarm.
The measure, adopted under the state’s Wellness Checks in Schools Program Act, is aimed at dealing with what policymakers describe as an explosion of “mental health” problems among children. The trends have been getting worse for years. But the government responses to COVID such as school shutdowns and mandated face masks reportedly caused a dramatic spike in mental issues.
Harvard-trained psychiatrist Dr. Peter Breggin, celebrated around the world for his war on psychiatric quackery such as lobotomies and electro-shock “therapy,” sounded the alarm about the Illinois plan. “This will lead to the mass medicalization of children — even more than is already being done to them — and create a storehouse on distorted psychiatric data and diagnoses that can ruin their lives,” he warned the Illinois Family Institute.

I’m soooooo glad my kids are long out of school.
BUT...you lost me at the third paragraph:

"Harvard trained" doesn't mean a whole lot these days.
"Electro-shock 'therapy'" works, and is much better in the long term than lifetime prescriptions for head meds which need frequent adjustment and augmentation with other head meds.

The poor children of Illinois. Hello private schools. By the way...a yearly head check is warranted for administrators and teachers and I don’t mean for head lice.
Test the teachers first. Publish the results.
And . . . annual Mental Health Testing of teachers and administrators?

Is this “test” to ascertain if parents are WOKE?
I don’t think much of shock treatment. My mom had it, late 1940s, early 50s.
It may have helped her out initially, but I believe that later in her life it caused her a lot of problems.
They might be testing to see if they have to buy some more sandboxes for the kids that think they are dogs or cats. There are accommodating some in area schools now.

Somewhat surprising that a Harvard man would be OPPOSING this garbage.
In the past I have recommended that everyone running for public office have a mental eval with results published prior to the election.
Also drug and alcohol testing with periodic retesting while in office.

Kids have no filter at a young enough age. What a way to get them to rat on their parents but to disguise the surveillance as *mental health* screening.
