Russian presidential aide on Monday revealed that President Vladimir Putin's visit to Türkiye is planned for February.

"Yes, a visit is being prepared," Yuri Ushakov told reporters in St. Petersburg in response to a question on the visit.

Ushakov said Ukraine, where Russia launched a "special military operation" nearly two years ago, will be one of the key points of the meeting between Putin and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

-snip-

Ushakov also said Moscow is ready to enter into negotiations with Ukraine.

More signs that Russia is afraid of a second Trump administration and wants to end the war before President Trump is inaugurated next January.

The weaker Russia gets, the stronger Trump’s negotiation position next January.

Putin’s visit to Türkiye planned for February

Probably to discuss Ukrainian farm workers for Turkish Agriculture.

Kinda like our Bracero program.

LOL, there have been name changes over the years.

Good question, when Peking became Beijing, why didn’t Peking duck become Beijing duck?

When did Bombay become Mumbai?

Some of these changes seem to have happened with no explanation.

Sorry MSM, I plan to continue calling the country “Turkey”. As English-speakers, we are not required to assimilate our writing system to a foreign writing system. I’m not going to go around putting a bunch of dots and accents on top of letters, thank you very much.

I’m starting to wonder if marcusmaximus is actually Putin’s personal assistant or something. He seems to know intimate details about his schedule and activities.

Is there any consistency on this? For example , we don’t call Germany Deutschland, even though that’s how they pronounce the name of their country in German.

Read the article. The Daily Sabah is an Erdogan mouthpiece so no reason to suspect any particular propaganda on this matter.

Factual error in the article — first Putin overseas trip since Feb 2022. Incorrect. There have been others, specifically the big multi national economics conference in Kazahkstan. Neither a route to Turkey nor Kazahkstan need be over a sea. Don’t know why that error would be made. Putin’s past travel itinerary is easy to find.

Nothing really new here. Turkey was a big proponent of the grain transport arrangements made because it looked so good for Erdogan’s election campaign and he wielded power.

But this looks like a brief visit mostly about perhaps another grain corridor. It will need to be a quick visit. Putin is in the middle of an election campaign, with voting in March. Nothing significant can be expected until after the election.
