Repair guys are a scam. They charge $100 bucks to show up, then basically tell you to fix the problem will cost more than it’s worth you go out and buy a new machine and they pocket $100 bucks for 20 minute of examining the appliance.
Last one I called did this song and dance… told me the repair would be $300. Went online and found the part for $25 and replaced it in 10 minutes

I’ve repaired my GE stove twice and my fridge once. Unfortunately some people don’t know which end of a screwdriver to use.
The one nice thing is that if you’re handy at all, many things can be diagnosed and repaired using YouTube videos.
One virtue of living in a smaller cohesive community is that you can report this kind of experience on facebook on a community page, and his business will dry up and blow away. Probably won’t work in a larger city.
