Nothing have changed. It's human nature.
Throughout the Old Testament, it is striking how serious of a sin adultery is in God’s eyes. There are 2 places in Genesis where Abraham, entering a foreign country, tells his wife Sarah to pretend to be his sister rather than his wife - she was apparently so good looking, even in her later years, that Abraham feared he would be killed so that the powers that be could take her. Both times, when the scheme is uncovered, the rulers of the lands that he was deceiving were horrified that they might have committed adultery with a married woman, even unknowingly. And this was before God’s laws were put in writing.
Later, when David, who already had a couple dozen wives and many more concubines, takes another man’s wife, it was so serious that God punished the entire kingdom.
And after that, God repeatedly compares the idolatry in Israel to adultery, to the point where the entire nation is wiped out because of it.
Then Jesus raised the bar to the point that every one of us has committed adultery, at least in our hearts.
Today, under the eyes of the same God that punished David and Israel, we treat adultery as a game. Don’t know how a holy God puts up with it all.
