Same out here in Idaho and Montana with the Cordilleran Ice Sheet...
About 12,000 years ago, the valleys of western Montana lay beneath a lake nearly 2,000 feet deep. Glacial Lake Missoula formed as the Cordilleran Ice Sheet dammed the Clark Fork River just as it entered Idaho. The rising water behind the glacial dam weakened it until water burst through in a catastrophic flood that raced across Idaho, Oregon, and Washington toward the Pacific Ocean. Thundering waves and chunks of ice tore away soils and mountainsides, deposited giant ripple marks, created the scablands of eastern Washington and carved the Columbia River Gorge. Over the course of centuries, Glacial Lake Missoula filled and emptied in repeated cycles, leaving its story embedded in the land.

The Missoula floods (aka Spokane floods or Bretz floods) were cataclysmic glacial lake outburst floods that swept periodically across eastern Washington and down the Columbia River Gorge at the end of the last ice age. These floods were the result of periodic sudden ruptures of the ice dam on the Clark Fork River that created Glacial Lake Missoula. After each ice dam rupture, the waters of the lake would rush down the Clark Fork and the Columbia River, flooding much of eastern Washington and the Willamette Valley in western Oregon. After the lake drained, the ice would reform, creating Glacial Lake Missoula again.

Flood Facts

To this day, we still see lots of evidence of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet and the Missoula Floods here in North Idaho.

What might have caused those enormous ice dams to melt and collapse, then reform, collapse again, reform again, over centuries?

We had plenty of snow 2 days before Christmas. It was on top of snow already there for a few weeks. No problem having a white Christmas. It started snowing again on Jan 4th and there is snow in the forecast every day for the next 10 days. The snow pack in eastern Idaho is a 67% of normal to date. A big storm like the one inbound could fix that quickly.

Only the tops of the hills (”Horse Heaven Hills”) around here stayed dry.

Climate is what you expect.

Weather is what you get.

This is staggering. All caused by the warming at the end of the last Ice Age...
After J.T. Pardee studied the canyon of the Flathead River (100 years ago), he estimated that flood waters in excess of 45 miles per hour would be required to roll the largest of the boulders moved by the flood. He estimated the water flow was 9 cubic miles per hour, more than the combined flow of every river in the world. More recent estimates place the flow rate at ten times the flow of all current rivers combined. The flow from the Missoula Floods was one to ten times the flow rate of all the rivers in the world combined!
All caused by global warming at the end of the last Ice Age.

Everybody should ask their climate kook acquaintances about the cause of that.

“… asked me whether I’d rather freeze to death or die in a fire so many times that if I didn’t know him I might be concerned that he was planning something.”

She’s either driven the kid nuts with her climate hysteria, or he’s realized what a nutjob she is and is thinking ahead.

Some weather people saying oh the
Boston area hasn’t had more than 7
inches on the ground in the past 2
years or so...I live 2 blocks from
the ocean and it’s said a lot of
the upcoming storm will be rain
for us...44 deg water temp, air temps
in 20s.. “a little, but heavy wet
snow, tough to shovel—further west
and north they’ll get a lot—the
fluff factor” (meteorologist on
WMEX today).

Some winters mild, some not with
heavy snow and brutal temperatures.
It’s not due to we tiny humans
on face of the planet.

NY Times Feb 2014:”We could be
seeing the end of snow..ski areas
closing down”

Feb 2015: Northeast buried under 4
feet of snow, storm after storm
in a short time.
You can never tell

Dec 1—60 degrees, people on
boats on New England harbors

May, early June—snow flurries
in Lake Champlain VT, Franconia
Notch NH

Oct—snow in CT

Dec 2007—huge amounts of snow
and ice in Boston
Feb 2017—mild temps in Boston

Today, ten times more people die of cold than heat.

Meanwhile, Accuweather has this up...
Parts of Europe are experiencing an extreme start to the new year’s weather. As some countries struggle with devastating floods, others have been plunged into extreme cold, causing chaos.

I don’t know much about it, actually, but used to ride my dirt bikes around the edges of vineyards along the bases of the Kiona Hills and Red Mountain.

You won’t like it much here, then. Here in Oldtown, we’re not only looking at snow, but subzero temps into the end of next week. I’ve been working the splitter overtime so we have plenty of wood in the ready racks.

This winter weather was predicted back in the summer. And they were spot on. It's an El Niño. I wouldn't care if I never saw snow again.

I’m an Albertan, so I can take any weather in the continental US, except for Alaskan weather. Although it has been a very warm year, almost t-shit since November, usually we get Siberian weather.

I would just like to live on the West Coast weatherwise. Oregon or Washington state I think would be the most fiun.
