Is Israel making the right move? Their forces have been hell on wheels against Hamas’ forces—they can’t stop the IDF. They’ve split the Gaza Strip in two, slowly degrading the terror groups’ imprint in the region. Hamas is going to be eradicated from the face of the Earth. It’s not a question of if but when at this point. Israeli troops have begun flooding the terror tunnels; they’re knocking off Hamas’ top leadership throughout the region. Whether they be in Gaza City or Beirut, Israel will kill these people after they launched a genocidal terror attack on October 7.
Throw an anvil when your opponent is drowning, not a life vest. Instead, Israel is withdrawing some 7,000 troops. The reasons aren’t unordinary since wars are expensive. The mass deployment has been a strain on the Israeli economy, but the underlying concern is that the Biden administration has pushed for a reduced footprint in Gaza. They want a more targeted war, utilizing special forces groups to wipe out Hamas terrorists...
....
Whatever Biden pushes should be viewed with skepticism and concern, given that he’s a public official who has been wrong about foreign policy for 40 years. Joe Biden isn’t to be trusted with anyone’s security. Yet, as the piece noted toward the end, there is an argument to be made that since Hamas can’t stop the IDF, and with significant numbers of their forces wiped out by Israeli assaults, this is the start of the low-intensity phase. It’s going to be the longest phase of the war, which is why everyone observing is warning the public that this conflict is nowhere near close to being finished. And we still have the Lebanon front that could open up.

In a war between savages and civilized people, support the civilized people!
Israel must not relent until Hamas is utterly destroyed! Don’t listen to demented and savage-friendly biden!!
The war will continue til done. But there’s work to be done unless they want the economy to collapse too.
Are they shifting them to the Lebanon border?
Israel has done a great job so far. They have deconstructed Northern Gaza and done the same in the Hamas strongholds in the South.
They have Hamas on the ropes but they have kind of run out of targets in the North for large scale military operations and the same can probably said of the strongholds in the south.
They are entering the mop up phase of operations and they may have reached the point of diminishing returns with their current strategy and repeating their strategy in the south is not a reality.
Time for a different path.
The real threat is Hezbollah and Iran so Gaza is kind of becoming a distraction.
The terrorists must howl and feel the true brunt of the war they started; else they will do this again.
That's why we have forever wars.
That demand guarantees much higher IDF casualties and a much longer war, which Israel cannot endure. 90% of the Gazan population supports HAMAS. There are no low intensity "targeted" measures that can possibly overcome that level of support.
What works is killing or permanently expelling approximately 30% of the adult male population that is capable of fighting. That has worked in many different eras and circumstances. It is what ended the American civil war and caused the defeat of Southern States. It is how the Russians defeated the Chechnya forces. It is what will soon end the war in Ukraine on Russian terms.
What also works is the expulsion or extermination of a hostile population.
This is the ugly reality of war.
The dominant faction of the Biden administration wants an Israeli defeat.
Mat needs to write words to get his daily bread. The fact he shows himself to be clueless apparently does not stop him.
Certain IDF troops are being withdrawn from northern Gaza for the good and simple reason that they killed off Hamas. They won.
I think as long as Israel continues a blockade. They should be abkle to slow it all down and do things as they want. With minimal disruption to their momentum.
They will need to resist US and UN pressure to lift the embargo.
BUT, as long as Hamas is in power and holding hostages, Israel has the moral highground here.
True.
The majority of the IDF are "Reserve", meaning they have job jobs - electricians, shop owners, engineers, etc., that they need to get back to.
They don't have enough people for a protracted conflict - they've usually kicked butt within a few weeks.
I have assumed that IDF is preparing to redeploy to the North to deter or fight against Hezbollah in Lebanon, now that Hamas is clearly losing in Gaza. I hope they are not just trying to placate the anti-Israeli imbeciles in office.
Right. There appear to be more forces there than tasks for them to do.
“Israeli troops have begun flooding the terror tunnels!”
Best news I’ve heard in weeks!
To get the rats to come out of their holes, then squish them.
My belief is that Israel must at least temporarily disinvest in Gaza and prepare for a 2-front war with Hezbolleh; and potentially a full-on conflict with Iran itself, both very serious threats. Whatever fighting that must occur until a full victory in Gaza is achieved will not become any harder if the fighting there abates; indeed, Hamas may well reveal itself and thus be better targeted than they are right now. In short, the IDF is running low on targets in Gaza and is likely to raise its own casualty count for diminishing returns there.
Yes, get them back to their jobs in Israeli society.
Hopefully, Israel has learned a lesson - don't give passes to Gazans to work in Israel! They were spies, mapping out targets and information on Kibbutzes citizens and passing the information to Hamas. To heck with Gaza, don't allow them to work in Israel. (The same lesson could apply to the USA in regards to the influx of illegal aliens, some of them are foreign devils up to no good.)
Exactly. It is a great burden on the economy to have so many men under arms. This is the equivalent of calling up 30 million US soldiers in a week.
The IDF has no intention of letting Hamas escape. But now its a matter of hunting them all down and blowing up all the tunnels, which will take months.
Also they will need these men on the Northern front for the next round with Hezbollah.
Interesting theory being mentioned. Veterans of the fighting in Gaza returned to their previous occupations for awhile to help quash the upsurge in pacifism and enthusiasm for the judicial coup underway. Vets don’t want their friends’ lives wasted, nor will they tolerate what was becoming a civil war.
Like my father before me, I will work the land
And like my brother above me, who took a Rebel stand.
He was just 18, proud and brave, but a Yankee laid him in his grave.
I swear by the mud below my feet,
You can’t raise a Caine back up when he’s in defeat.
The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down, and all the people were singing
They went, “Na, la, na, la, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.”
