Republican Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio issued a veto of a bill Friday that would ban doctors from performing sex-change medical procedures on minors and bar biological males from competing in women’s sports.
The bill was introduced by Republican state Rep. Gary Click in February and overwhelmingly approved by the Ohio House of Representatives and the state Senate earlier this month. DeWine went on at length during a press conference about his discussions with families who claimed that their children would be dead without “gender-affirming care,” and just hours before the deadline, the governor said that he had vetoed the bill. “Were I to sign House Bill 68 … Ohio would be saying that the government knows better what is medically best for the child than the two people who love that child the most, the parents,” DeWine said. “Now, while there are rare times in the law in other circumstances, where the state overrules the medical decisions made by their parents, I can think of no example, where this is done not only against the decision of the parents but also against the medical judgment of the treating physician and against the judgment of the treating team of medical experts. Therefore, I cannot sign this bill as it is currently written.”
The bill banned doctors from prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, and from performing transgender surgeries on minors, according to the text. DeWine said during the press conference that his administration is going to work to draft rules to prevent minors from accessing this kind of medical treatment.
DeWine did not clarify when asked if he was just opposed to banning “non-surgical gender-affirming treatments.”
“I’m in favor of what I’ve said, which is what I’m in favor of parents making these very difficult decisions, not the government,” he said.
DeWine also made little mention of the sports ban until asked about it by reporters. The governor, who has previously expressed his disapproval of transgender sports bans, claimed that he focused on the part of the bill that “affected the most people.”
“The second sports part of this bill is certainly important, but it affects just a handful, literally a handful of children. The part that I’ve addressed, affects many more … and I did not ever get to the second or second issue and that’s enough for one gulp at this anyway.”
Click did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
Your track record with governors is weak. DeWhine, Kasich, etc.
Another backless cuckold
Government already does this!
Kid gilets HIV. You have no right to know.
Kid gets an abortion it’s illegal for the parents to be told.
RINOs gotta RINO.
They voted yes to infanticide, so voting for permanent sterilization of children is the same.
““Were I to sign House Bill 68 … Ohio would be saying that the government knows better what is medically best for the child than the two people who love that child the most, the parents,” DeWine said.”
Complete Nikki Haley recycled horse$hit. So not two lesbians can groom their son into chopping off his penis, or trannies can shower with little girls, and that is supposed to be “conservative, less government” thinking?
Trash. Just like Haley.
You can no longer vote for someone because of what s/he thinks. You are voting for a person that will govern according to how s/he thinks more people would vote for him/her. Candidates don’t STAND for anything anymore, they govern by how many votes they can get.
So, we should repeal laws banning those under 21 from drinking if their parents say its okay?
ONLY the individual when he or she is adult should be making a decision about whether to have a sex change.
“I’m in favor of parents making these very difficult decisions, not the government.”
But if a parent decided to do the surgery at home, I expect the government would violate DeWine’s laissez faire cop out.
DeWine is in favor of donors and liberal shriekers making HIS very difficult decisions is probably closer to the truth.
Always was a RINO but drew conservative backing in 2022
John Bricker may have been the last good governor of OH.
But J.D. Vance managed to buck the RINOs. Already their best senator since Robert Taft, Sr.
The government always knows better, unless you are a very loud minority voting block or if you have kompromat on the politician.
I would say something disparaging of Ohio voters but that wouldn’t be fair.
Politicians lie as easily as you or I breathing.
Next door in Indiana we got Senator Young who mostly ran on family values and especially fiscal responsibility. I kid you not his first two big votes he cast were the LGBTQ bill and Omnibus $1,700,000,000,000 spending bill.
He voted WITH the Dems on both.
Here is his supposed views on the deficit from his OWN website:
“ ….finding legislative solutions to stabilize and decrease our national debt, which now exceeds $33.6 trillion—more than double what it was just 10 years ago.”
Yet Here he is where the rubber meets the road, on the Biden Omnibus spending bill with 17 other RINOs who joined the DemoRATS:
“Here are the 14 Republican senators who voted for the bill and are remaining in office:
Mitch McConnell of Kentucky
Susan Collins of Maine
Mitt Romney of Utah
Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska
John Cornyn of Texas
John Thune of South Dakota
Tom Cotton of Arkansas
Todd Young of Indiana
Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia
John Boozman of Arkansas
Jerry Moran of Kansas
Mike Rounds of South Dakota
Roger Wicker of Mississippi

And here are the four who voted for it and are retiring:
Roy Blunt of Missouri
Jim Inhofe of Oklahoma
Rob Portman of Ohio
Richard Shelby of Alabama”
We hope Paxton runs against Cornyn in the 2026 primary, but liberals are flooding into TX.
I’m pretty sure that’s what 90% of them are coming here for.
And all the Republican pundits rubbed their hands together and said “Just wait until the next election. It will be a Red Wave”.
A genuine POS that guy is. Totally and completely void of morals.
I’m sorry Ohio, you have a creep Governor ... he exudes creepiness and his veto of the trani bill exemplifies it.
Get rid of him. Over ride!
