Is Anyone Else Spending Christmas Eve Alone?
Skooz’s place | December 24, 2023 | Skooz

Well, another year, another Christmas Eve. I’ll be home alone with my faithful greyhound, sipping vino and watching George Bailey learn how wonderful life is, which has been my tradition for about 15 years now. Anyone else going it solo tonight?

My wonderful pyr Hannah had a NY strip, broccoli and smooshed potatoes for dinner last night. I took her out for that dinner because today I’m dining alone at a very nice restaurant where she isn’t permitted.

They are such beautiful, sweet dogs. As she was eating I watched her and thanked God for her and her companionship. She came right after my divorce and helped through the hurts. Now, eleven years later, she naps much more, but always wants to be wherever I am and I take her everywhere I’m able to take her. Two peas in a pod we are and when I’m out and she isn’t with me, the first question asked is; “where’s your dog?”, as though I’m incomplete without her- which is true.

May your fuzz factory bring you joy and comfort and may those loving eyes toward you be as your loving gaze to our Savior. When you think of the comfort you give that dog and all the love you have, reflect that God’s love for you and caring about you is much immeasurably greater, beyond understanding...for you.

Merry Christmas to you and your fuzz factory.

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear not, therefore; you are of MORE VALUE than many sparrows” Mat 10:29-31

Spent Christmas Eve solo and enjoyed it.
Son is coming today for Christmas dinner.
HE’s cooking and bringing all the food ‘cooked’ and all the trimmings! His idea!

Massachusetts Puritans didn’t celebrate Christmas. A joyless ubunch that treated it like any other day.

By contrast the older Virginia colony decorated their homes and held parties and feasts all through the season.

My favorite Christmas Eve of my 60 years was in 1988 in a rehab center in Minneapolis.

I had gotten into some trouble and found myself in court ordered rehab, but this was a Christian organization, so on Christmas eve they had a team come in to minister.

The team consisted of around 8 elderly gentlemen who appeared to all be at least in their 80s with their oldest member being 103 who walked in unassisted.

These gentlemen had been ministering together for decades and I got the distinct feeling that they were not the frail old men that they appeared to be, but in the spiritual realm they were special ops Rambo badasses going into enemy territory to annihilate the enemy and rescue hostages.

The speaker preached from Acts 12:6 where Peter was freed from prison, asking us how many of us had been struck on the side and woken up to be miraculously freed from our own prison of sin.

The Holy Spirit was there and it was beautiful.

Merry Christmas one and all.

I’ve spent so many holidays alone (as well as holiday eves!) that I don’t think I would be comfortable having anyone with me.

That may change, but then again, it may not! Either way, I’m good!

Have a Merry Christmas, Skooz!

Merry Christmas and Gods’ blessings in the New Year. You are not actually alone, you are never actually alone.

Ugh, I can no longer tolerate it. I won’t subject myself to the idiocy, I just won’t.

Christmas can be a difficult time and a lonely time. There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely.

I’ve lived in New Mexico alone without my wife after separating from her five and a half years ago (we’re still married). Sometime since then, my pastor, Joseph Prince, said something that helped me a lot:

“The cure to loneliness is to be alone with Jesus.”

I have found that to be true. He’s the best friend I’ve ever had for these 55 years of knowing him. He never condemns you or makes you feel guilty, he’s always on your side, faithful to the end, and (I’m not real sure about this) even laughs at your jokes.

God bless and have a wonderful day

If you're east of Austin and lonely, PM me an address and I'll go visit you. After 30 minutes of pontificating on this nation's severe problems and the list of folks who should be hanged, you'll be so happy you were alone and thank me as you're kicking me outta the house. lolol!

Wife wanted to go.

Do I put up with a few hours or a wife that can hold a grudge for weeks?

Thankfully she’s starting to see what I have seen for years. “Maybe we should take a vacation next year?” She asked on the way home.

From going to their house or leavinging town? Either way, Yes.

Or we could just invite them over. They always say we live to far away. But we are not allowed to use that excuse when they invite us.

Yes. Cancer survivor here, never in a relationship, yet not healthy enough to go and see my family, or what‘s left of it.

And many of the contributions to this thread have been so utterly heartbreaking 💔

I wish you all His blessings and a lot of comfort. You are all in my prayers 🙏🏻

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matth. 5, 4).
Those that sow in tears, shall reap in joy. They go forth and weep, bearing precious seed, but shall reap in joy, bringing their sheaves with them (Ps. 126, 5-6).
