Trump Faces Backlash After Calling Conservative Rep. Chip Roy a ‘RINO’ Who Should Be Primaried
American Greatness ^ | December 19, 2023 | Debra Heine

Former President Donald Trump is facing a backlash after calling one of the most conservative members of Congress a RINO who should be primaried—one week after the filing deadline. Trump blasted Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, on Truth Social after the congressman endorsed Trump’s rival, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for president.

“Has any smart and energetic Republican in the Great State of Texas decided to run in the Primary against RINO Congressman Chip Roy,” Trump wrote. “For the right person, he is very beatable. If interested, let me know!!!”

Trump’s comments appeared to many to be off the mark, as Roy has a 98 percent conservative voting record according to Heritage Action, and is the only Republican who scored a “perfect zero” on voting for Biden’s agenda in 2022, according to Rollcall.

Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Clay Higgins of Louisiana and Bob Good of Virginia and then-Rep. Van Taylor of Texas each voted with Biden on 1 percent of votes in which CQ Roll Call determined the president had a clear position. Because there were only 66 presidential support votes in the House last year, that 1 percent equates to one vote.

Also, as Iowa-based conservative radio host Steve Deace pointed out, the candidate filing deadline for the 2024 primary elections in Texas was December 11, 2023.

“Is anything more Trumpian than threatening one of the only truly honest members of Congress because he doesn’t kneel before Zod, but also stupidly doing so more than a week after the filing deadline?” Deace wrote on X. “Trumpian bluster followed by a Trumpian lack of attention to detail.”

Maybe consider it this way-

he received most votes in GOP history-

with 90% of industry/institution/billionaires colluding and conspiring against him.

I don’t recall Carlson being a Trump supporter that long.
I’m sure spending more than 2secs please 2,3,24 etc... exist.

Chip Roy is another in a long, long line of phony Washington “conservative firebrands”. He’s nothing more than a sound bite generator. He is a good actor though.

2 facts:

1) Chip Roy is my representative; and

2) I have already voted for Donald Trump 4 times, and plan on voting for him twice more this coming year.

I am disturbed on 2 counts: first, that Roy would endorse DeSantis and, second, that Trump is calling him a RINO. Both are mistakes. DeSantis would, IMHO, make a decent President, but I don’t think that he is electable (and certainly not this year). Besides, I VERY much favor Trump, and the primaries may as well already be done, given the huge lead for Trump. Why Roy would endorse DeSantis at this point in time is beyond me. As for DJT, I can understand him being upset, but he did a “ready, FIRE!, aim” routine on this one - he reacted with his gut rather than his head. We all do that sometimes, and it is a forgivable mistake, but it is a mistake nonetheless. Roy has been damned near perfect as a libertarian-oriented conservative in my eyes.

I wish that both of these fine gentlemen and patriots would get their acts together, as they are on the same team. We should be fighting the Leftists, not each other.

And needs to provde a detailed logic for the support of his position.

I'm sure it's pretty simple. Roy is a Conservative. DeSantis is a conservative. Trump is a New York liberal.

DeSantis has won every election he's participated in. Trump hasn't won anything since 2016.

“. . . calling one of the most conservative members of Congress a RINO who should be primaried—one week after the filing deadline.”

Brings to mind the time Trump said he was mulling giving a pardon to Cassius Clay - a few decades after the Supreme Court ruled Clay didn't need a pardon.

Trump's ramblings are entertaining and I think his arm waving draws attention and probably does pick up some votes from people that are not dialed in.

Of course, some of us conservatives who have voted for Trump find things he says here and there worthwhile; no doubt about that.

Roy talks a good game and presents well but he does not support Trump.

Therefore, he must be destroyed. How dare he not fall down in worship before the magassiah?

DeSantis came out and first thing lit into Trump. He thought to win, had to take Trump out or go against him. Was the worst thing to do.
It also set Trump in a combative mode.

I know, right?

All kidding aside, Trump has shown he will work with anyone. Just wish he had more supporters in congress that want to work with him.

I wish that both of these fine gentlemen and patriots would get their acts together,

Donald Trump cannot tell the difference between a "rival" and an "enemy". This is a serious error. Failure to turn rivals into allies leaves one with no allies, just sycophants. His (and his supporters') attacks on Gov. DeSantis, for example are sheer madness. They're insane, stupid, wrong, unnecessary, and very much harmful to America in the long run.

"Politics is bloodsport", some say.

And that's the problem with politics, and why we need less of it.

What we need here is statesmanship, and I see nobody currently running for national office who really exhibits it.

DeSantis came out and first thing lit into Trump.

That is a false statement, in fact it is an inversion of reality. Mr. Trump started with the "desacntiblahblah" insanity in November 2022, when Gov. DeSantis was just finishing his huge re-election victory.

Sometimes Trumps mouth is his on worst enemy. I am not sure but I bet Roy endorsed someone else like DeSantis....lol

Roy supports DeSantis against Trump.

Trump responds by wanting to support somebody against Roy.

What about that do you find inappropriate?

I'll look for your answer.

If you go Conservative it’s a all or nothing deal.

Well, at least Roy is more conservative than the guy who banned guns, spent like a drunk democrat, handed the country over to Dr. Fauci, hangs out with Lindsey Graham, and throws gay parties at Mar-A-Lago.

To a fault.

How many times did Trump reach out to McConnell and Ryan, Shumer, hell even tried to work with Pelosi. He had a wide variety of cabinet members, some good, some not so good. Always trying to make a deal.
