Mullin [Oklahoma] slams Gaetz: ‘Living off your daddy’s money’

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), who challenged a Teamsters boss to a fight last month, on Thursday slammed Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for “living off” his “daddy’s money” after Gaetz cited Mullin’s increase in wealth as a reason to ban members of Congress from trading stocks.

“I hear @RepMattGaetz has criticism of hard-earned success — he should try building a business that gains value, it’s more gratifying than living off your daddy’s money,” Mullin posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

Mullin was reacting to a graphic Gaetz reposted that showed Mullin’s net worth swelled from $12 million in 2018, when he was a House member, to $63 million in 2022, despite earning a $174,000 salary in Congress.

“We should pass a ban on trading stocks!” Gaetz said in his post, citing Mullin’s rise in wealth.

Gaetz also defended his post after Mullin’s comment.

“The only thing I criticized were your stock trades while a member of Congress. I want to ban those trades. You cashed in and made millions,” Gaetz wrote.

Mullin’s stock trades have attracted some attention online.

Capitol Trades pointed out that Mullin bought between $15,000 and $50,000 in Raytheon Technologies stock through a joint account on Sept. 13, noting that company’s stocks have risen 6 percent since the Oct. 7 attack on Israeli civilians outside of the Gaza Strip.

.
Gaetz was told by the Leadership not to use Hunter’s name. He wasn’t to use Hunter’s name on the Floor - and he ignored them.

They hate them for violating their protocols and devotion to the Royal Biden’s.

Mullin said that? That dim bulb literally took over his dads business. What an ass.

How about amending the Constitution to bsn consecutive terms for members of the House or Senate.

The only people who can run for an office in such a scenario are those who do not presently hold that office.

So what’s the name of Mullins’ stockbroker? I’d love to have the astronomical returns he’s getting. Our 401k lost money over the last 2 yrs. Do these elitists in Congress care how it looks to us peons who pay their salaries?

Gaetz is right.

Your net worth should not be making major jumps while you are supposedly working for the people in your district.

I would go far beyond just the making of stock trades but most FReepers know my views on government employees becoming rich off the backs of taxpayers so I will not go into my usual rant.

They stuck the Capitol in a fever ridden swamp in the back of no where for a reason.

And yet here you are, so bored that you're responding to it.

At least I admit I'm bored enough to point out your hypocrisy. Or jackassery as the case may be.

“That dim bulb literally took over his dads business.”

He took over at the age of 20 decades ago. No dim bulb!

His wealth came from selling his business, not from stocks.

“As of 2020, over half of the members of Congress were millionaires and the median net worth of members was approximately $1 million. The original documents for each member’s disclosure are publicly available on a database website, maintained by OpenSecrets.”

Top US Congress members in wealth: (in millions of dollars)
1 Kevin Hern 361.0 million
2 Rick Scott 259.7
3 Mark Warner 214.1
4 Greg Gianforte 189.3
//////////////////////////////////
Original idea of the Republic was to have representatives listen to debates and vote on measures while citizens went about their lives, rotating with them in elections with farmers and professionals and tradespeople going to Congress for a period and then returning to their lives. Compulsory free education made for an educated voting populace and people ready to serve in office.

Get your facts straight.

He sold his business. Nothing to do with stocks.

He was running the business at the age of 20 when his father took ill.

Dumb as a box of rocks. The idiot flew to Kyrgystan to try to bring as many Afghans as he could to America. And most of all, that daddy’s money boy committed an unforgiveable sin on Jan 6.

Coward that he is, he found the cop that shot Ashli Babbett dead and literally gave him a big hug and told him “you did what you had to do man”.

He is trash, without an original thought, and has no business in Congress. It is to Oklahoma’s eternal shame that they voted for him. He did one or two MMA fights, grew the tacticool beard, and has two first names. And Oklahoma idiots voted for him.

Took over a long established plumbers business in a small town. Dad sick and town has sympathy. Now thinks he’s a self made man.

Born on third, thinks he hit a triple.
