Biden admin quietly developing settlement with groups seeking to tear down key power source

'Congress alone has the authority' to breach federal dams, lawmakers write in letter to White House..

The Biden administration is quietly discussing a potentially far-reaching settlement with environmental groups that advocate for tearing down four hydroelectric dams in Washington...

...

In the filings, jointly submitted by the federal government and eco groups...

However, the filing failed to detail exactly what conditions were included in the secretive package

....

We find it necessary to remind you Congress alone has the authority not only to order the breach of the Lower Snake River Dams, but also exclusive authority to direct the study of breaching or to authorize replacement resources," four House Republicans from the Pacific Northwest led by Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., wrote to the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ)

...

This is statutory fact, and we warn the Administration not to attempt to circumvent that fact through clever wordsmithing," the lawmakers continued, noting they have received a "plethora" of complaints from stakeholders and constituents about the federal government's secretive negotiations on the matter.

...

The dams.. main benefit has been their reliable clean energy output. provide about 8% of the state's electricity, enough to serve millions of residents, and have a large total capacity of 3,000 megawatts.

...

In addition to the impacts on energy and climate ambitions, industry groups have argued that removing the four Snake River dams would disrupt the economy and harm agriculture exports.

The river system notably feeds the largest U.S. wheat export gateway. Aided by the dams, barges traveling along the Columbia River system carry about 60% of Washington's annual wheat exports. A staggering 40% of the nation's total wheat production, valued at billions of dollars, travels through the river system.

What's more important than the energy needs of the citizens of Washington is the livelihood of the fish and that a few hundred rafters regain access to "wild rivers".

Oh, and there might be some submerged Indian ruins that need to come back to the surface so they can be fenced off to prevent citizens from further ruining them.

No, it does not say Washington grows 40% of the nation’s wheat. Read it again:

“... A staggering 40% of the nation’s total wheat production, valued at billions of dollars, travels through the river system....”

That 40% comes not just from Washington but other states in the West where it cannot be shipped out over the mountains and via the Mississippi River.

A condor Cuisinart is a term used to describe windmills. Audubon Vice President Daniel Beard has said that it would be a “condor Cuisinart” to put a windfarm next to a critical condor habitat.

Eagles and other birds too. Not to mention the affect of windmills beaching whales.

“Advise to sell all bitcoin”

Whut? You just said a source of bitcoin would be eliminated. Basic economics says that a reduction in supply causes an increase in price.

I guess they’re just impatient.

Soros and Schwab are still really getting on in years, applications of Adrenochrome notwithstanding.

Is it POSSIBLE for our friends and neighbors who can “never be wrong at any cost” (we all know them) to admit they cast their vote for a brain-dead geezer whose handlers are taking down the country?

The Joe Biden regime is a willing partner with the anti-dam crackpots. The headline is misleading.

55% of the nation's wheat moves through the Columbia River system both by barge and by rail. There are LOTS of grain trains that run along the river. I believe they want to tear down the four Lower Snake river dams between Pasco and Lewiston. It is the most insane thing I've heard...well, maybe it gives a run for the money on climate catastrophe, trannies, CRT, BLM, tearing down statues and monuments, opening the southern "border" wide, renewable energy.

From U.S. Wheat Associates...

“The rivers can move more volume at once, with greater fuel efficiency. One barge can carry the same amount of wheat as 35 rail cars or 134 trucks. A barge tow can carry more than one 100-unit train or 538 trucks. And one barge can move a ton of wheat 647 miles per gallon while a truck can only move a ton of wheat 145 miles per gallon.”
Look at the cost per ton-mile of barge compared to train or truck. You'd think the idiotic greeniacs would be all in favor of the highest efficiency mode of transportation to save resources. But no.

The dams also provide water for Eastern Washington agriculture. The primary water sources for Eastern Washington are the Columbia, Yakima, and Snake River watersheds.
