New York once again has the dubious distinction of being labeled “the least free state” in America, according to a report issued by libertarian-leaning think tank The Cato Institute.
The Empire State ranked dead last — 50th — for policies impacting economic, social and personal freedoms in 2022, the report claims.
By comparison, Florida ranked 2nd after New Hampshire as the most free state in the union.
Cato said New York is a fiscal basket case.
The state ranked 50th for economic freedom and scored at or near the bottom for debt and state and local taxation, government consumption, land use and labor polic

NYC is a pretty cool place. The perks might outweigh the Leftist debauchery at least in some people’s minds. I’d love to g to at least visit there. Wonder if it’s going down as fast as S.F., CA.
My mother in law lives in the Finger Lakes Region on a rural property surrounded by Mennonites. She has a low income so state income taxes are not a significant issue.
The insanity in Albany or New York City are about as relevant to her as alien life in another galaxy.
We focus on politics here but for many folks it is not even in the top one hundred of their concerns.
So, NY is Number 1.
Which is Number 2 ?
New York Democrat politicians should be ashamed of this.
But instead they’re probably proud. Less freedom means more Big Brother control.
Hawaii.
Numbers 3 and 4 are California and New Jersey respectively.
“But maybe I’d visit the Adirondacks—naw, too close to NYC.”

You might be thinking about the Catskill mountains. The Adirondacks are a bit of a drive from NYC.
Thank God the millions who live in NYC and love it are there and not in some normal place.
Had lunch today with an old friend who lives right in the middle of all the action in Manhattan. And, as much as he loves NYC, he sadly admits that Yes, it’s as bad as - - or even worse than - - is being reported in the media.
I see the same here in Alaska. People can safely bury their heads in the sand and just continue living their lives. I work with several of them. They just tell me that nothing changes and it doesn’t matter who’s in charge. I seem like a complete weirdo to them when I show them how things have changed already and why.
Illegals and other welfare recipients: “This place is free. Everything I want is free to me.”
Kalifornicate is #1, I’m betting $5.
NY is maybe #2 or #3.
I grew up in Ithaca for five years, Fourth through Eighth Grades. My earliest political memory was dad and his buddies complaining about high taxes, how Albany sent all the upstate money to NYC, how they got nothing for their high taxes. I was about 11 years old when I heard that.
Dad’s buddy lived on “Texas Lane” in Ithaca and his mailbox had one of those old-fashioned letter boards on top where you could spell out your address on top of the box. He switched a couple of letters around so it read “10 Taxes Lane.” I went up to him and proudly disclosed his “error.”
“Mr. X, you didn’t spell ‘Texas’ rght on your mailbox,” I proclaimed.
He, dad, and all the men had a good laugh at the naive kid.
Funny how I remember it like it was yesterday, not 60 years ago.
With the liberal zero bail catch and release program for criminals it’s going downhill fast. Rude people with every other person looking to scam or rob you, no thanks, I’ll pass.
If we were, Deep State wouldn’t have to steal our elections, would it...
"Astounding" doesn't come close to describing the things he's subjected to.
Round up the usual suspects.
New York socialism camp #1
