Russo-Ukrainian War: The Reckoning
Big Serge ^ | 11/15/23 | Big Serge

(Excerpt)

Thus we arrived at a convolution situation where, despite Russia’s many obvious advantages (which in the end come down to a superior indigenous capacity to mobilize men, industrial output, and technology), it became “propaganda” to argue that Russia was going to achieve some sort of victory in Ukraine - that Ukraine would end the war having failed to re-attain its 1991 borders (Zelensky’s stated victory condition) and with the country in a wrecked state of demographic hollowing and material destruction....

As the autumn began to drag on without battlefield results materializing for Ukraine, the process of finger pointing began with remarkable predictability. Three distinct lines of thought emerged, with observers in the west blaming a supposed Ukrainian inability to implement western tactics, some Ukrainian parties countering that western armor was too slow to arrive, which gave the Russian army time to fortify its positions, and others arguing that the problem was that the west failed to provide the necessary aircraft and strike systems.

I think that all of this rather misses the point - or rather, all of these factors are merely tangential to the point. The various Ukrainian and western figures pointing fingers at each other are rather like the proverbial blind men describing an elephant. All of these complaints - insufficient training, slow delivery timetables, shortages of air and strike assets - merely reflect the larger problem of attempting to assemble on an improvised basis an entirely new army with a hodgepodge of mismatched foreign systems, in a country with dwindling demographic and industrial assets.

Such a terrible waste. Democrats greed and corruption, and neocon arrogance, in Ukraine will destroy that nation, has turned Russia into an enemy, and is aligning much of third world against the USA.

Good article.

“A whole host of assumptions about the war were to be tested: the supremacy of western equipment, Russia’s paucity of reserves, the superiority of Western-Ukrainian tactical methods, the inflexibility and incompetence of Russian commanders in the defense.”

I still don’t think that Western elites have realized the full significance of Ukraine abandoning their Western vehicles, and abandoning Western tactics and training, and attacking on foot after about six weeks of catastrophic losses.

What we now know is that Western equipment is not superior, Western tactics are not superior, Western training is not superior, and Western battle field analysis and strategy is DEFINITELY not superior.

The USA/NATO military is not just a paper tiger. It is a paper polecat.

These guys are running on a bluff, and have been for decades.

I keep showing this video to people who are in denial. Which of these two artillery systems look like they come from the superior military ?

The military gurus online have their expertise measured by viewcounts.

It is very dangerous to persuade yourself your systems are superior. It is easy to do. You never pay a price for being wrong. Someone else does.

The US likely retains an advantage in stealth tech. The US is likely far behind in hypersonics. When your advantage becomes discrete, you face the crushing reality that you may not use your advantage, for fear of capture.

All for a stupid ethnic border war. The same kind that Europeans have been having for centuries. We should never have gotten involved in this except to sponsor peace negotiations.

At the moment, the maximum advance achieved by the counteroffensive lies just ten miles from the town of Orikhiv (in the Ukrainian staging area).

After a series of "major breakthroughs" in the Russian defense lines this summer, the Ukes advanced just ten miles. The propaganda during this war was hilarious.

Actually, this article by Big Serge is a good one-stop cataloge of neocon/globalist/Zeeper/RINO mistakes, blunders, errors, inaccuracies, howlers, and screw-ups.

"Big Serge" started posting on Substack in August, 2022. His first post "The Russo-Ukrainian War A Six Month Retrospective" had this jem in it:

"I am a luddite by nature and have never had any sort of social media presence. However, when the Russo-Ukrainian War began in February, I was alarmed by the amateurish, even clownish levels of analysis that were being amplified by the typical establishment channels. Public figures that contravened the collective wisdom, like Colonel Douglas MacGregor or Scott Ritter, were largely ignored."
Anyone who takes MacGregor or Ritter seriously, and can not or will not understand why they are ignored, is not someone to take seriously. Big Serge is a Russian national pushing the usual Russian talking points.

Ukraine did not win the war this summer. Since attacking Adviivka in October, the Russian army has lost over a thousand combat vehicles and is losing a battalion a week. That's not winning either.

And you turned out to be wrong about everything in the last two years. Thanks for all the input, genius.

If they get rid of Putin and get their hands on Russia’s natural resources, then as far as the rulers of the western world are concerned, it would all be worth it.

If Putin was right...

The war would have been over in two weeks... Russia would not need a draft "mobilization"... The mobilized soldiers will be property trained and equipped.... The Kherson and Kharkiv offensives really failed... Ukraine and Europe would have caved in over energy last winter... Cruise missile and drone strikes would have crippled Ukraine... Mobilized soldiers will not freeze to death in Ukraine... Bakhmut was a decisive victory... Ukraine will not ship grain anywhere... The Russian army will drive off AFU forces crossing the Dnipro river... Western weapons would not work... The Russian army would live up to its reputation... The war was/is/will be/something about being over every week for the last two years.

That is a big list of getting it wrong to me.

The turd world and the oic’s UN were polarized long ago. Have a look at their anti Israel pronouncements. They’re relatively quiet about America, they don’t want to insult their largest funder.
Whatever happens to Israel will happen to the west.

Yes. But this comparison is not just current day, goes back to the Cold War and comparable Cold War systems.

My point is the USA was riding on a bluff in the Cold War as well.

In a peer war, land based artillery creates 60-80 percent of casualties. It’s the single most important weapons system there is. Arguably more important than all others put together.

I’m starting to think the USA bluffed the Russians into a Cold War defeat.

There was no Cold War defeat, at least the Russians don’t see it this way. They have mn’t seen NATO as military superior to themselves nor they see it as superior nowadays.

The Warsaw Pact and NATO were arguably "near peers."

Meanwhile, the Warsaw Pact has been thrown onto the scrap heap of history.

Deprived of its vassal states and buffer zones, the Soviet Union, by itself, was hopelessly outgunned, outflanked, and outnumbered by NATO.

Meanwhile, the Soviet Union has likewise been consigned to the scrap heap of history, while NATO has considerably grown in size and strength.

After more than 600 days of fighting, Russia's manpower and military assets have been significantly degraded by Putin's Special Military Operation in invasion of Ukraine. NATO has continued to grow, adding long-term hold-outs Finland and Sweden.

All signs point to Putin's Russia likewise soon following its predecessors on the scrap heap of history.

Regards,
